I have an update to report.
Yesterday was a family wedding in North Devon. As they were not bringing baby and dog with them, daughter and her hubby decided to try using the MG instead of the Skoda.
They got to Leigh Delamere services on the M4 and decided to do a topup. Plugged the MG into the Gridserve charger and got an error message "Electric Grid Abnormal". Car bricked. Would not turn on. Attempts to reset met with "Reset button error". Called MG AA Assist. Because they were at the service area, deemed to be "in a safe place" and therefore not high priority.
Called Gridserve to be glibly informed "oh yes, our chargers and MGs don't work well". So WTF isn't there a great big sign on the charger to tell users not to plug MGs in?
AA eventually turned up after 5 hours. All this time, the car was blocking the charging space as it could not move. Car and daughter eventually recovered back to Hertfordshire. Daughter missed her favourite cousin's wedding.
To be fair, the same could have happened on an ICE car if something like a cambelt broke. Guess they were just unlucky, but I'm suspicious of the quality of MG's software.
One thing's for sure: it has put my daughter off EVs.

I don't blame her at all.
There was talks of le shuttle chargers not working with MGs it was part the reason I didn't go for them as if they have issues I Cant be bothered with them
Just txt my mate who has one to give him the heads up.

Gridserve chargers
I've used Gridserve chargers in the past with no issues. The last cpl of times I've plugged in and got HV fault. Had to switch the car on and off a few times to get the car to move. The charger was working fine as they had an engineer working on one of the machine's. He tried his van and no...

This bit stood out
seems if you try and rapid charge a ZS Gen 2 whilst the car is still switched on it could throw a HV Battery fault based on my personal experience.

Yes, she is now 0 for 2 on long journeys in the MG. (First trip problems were related to difficulty finding working chargers).I don't blame her at all.

That thread you linked is scary. There are so many different suggestions for clearing faults. It's like trying to find the solution to a misbehaving Windows PC!

If I ever had to buy a new ice car it would definitely not be a diesel. Dirty black smoke belching cars, which in an effort to curb that ,have dpf's that block and cost a fortune to sort.Tell her to buy a diesel, take the stress out of motoring.

Not all diesels are like 80's London taxis. Anything chucking out black smoke has an issue. Modern diesels with a dpf and adblue are not throwing out smoke.
I've had a number of diesels, dpf are not a problem if you do decent journeys. If you don't, you should buy a car with a different fuel type. That's been well known for years now.

Plenty of poorly maintained diesels on the road kicking out a ton of smoke. Let's not try and pretend otherwise. Plenty of petrol ones for that matter.

How old do you think a diesel needs to be before it starts to fail emission tests during MOT

They don’t care about the cheap Chinese tat made in Smokey Chinese factories powered by dirty coal fired power stations, as long as it’s zero emissions at the tailpipe.
