The all things EV chat thread

I have seen a few videos about it. Apparently the ID.Buzz is better, but not £30k better.
It may be quicker, but its too costly and load capacity is less as well.
TBH, it only really to do 4 years, then I will sell it and retire.
But costs wise, the per hour parking savings are £2.60. £3.15 and £3.70 cheaper for Kens and Chelsea, Westminster and finally Hammersmith and Fulham. Put that with a reduced Congestion Charge and no more £85 a week for diesel and over 4 years thats a pretty tidy sum. Thats on top of maintaining the T6 and the PV5 cargo's £26777 outlaw that includes a 7 yr warranty and biannual serving (or 20k miles) and it starts to look a no brainer. Accepting it's going to be slower and reduced payload will be the interesting bits, but hey thats life.
But don't worry, Im not going to stop saying I prefer ICE, this is purely an economical choice. :)

Looking at going (partly) over to the green side and currently got my eye on a 24 plate Kia Niro (1.6 GDi HEV 4). Any first hand experience on these and anything I should be looking for when I go and see the vehicle?
And, probably more important, how is the boot size for bag and trolley? :)

I looked at a Nero when they first came out, but the boot was too small to be able to leave all the clubs in the bag and take the trolley.

Before people obsess too much about fitting everything into a boot, I certainly used to, what is so wrong with putting the seats down and using the extra space of the back seats? How often do you take more than 2, possibly 3 in your car?

Once you realise that, suddenly you don't need the enormous boot anymore.

If you do need an enormous boot, the answer is usually a Skoda of some sort 😄

Both my Mazda 3 and current CX5 are able to take my bag with the clubs in and the trolley in the boot without needed to drop and seat and keeping the parcel shelf in. For me, having clubs in the boot and not being seen is a must.:)
My Mazda 3 did a cross channel trip once, 3 of us with 3 full bags and 1 trolley. Took it all fine, but admittedly no parcel shelf taken.

@Bunkermagnet I get for some it's a requirement. I just realised a couple of years ago that it wasn't any longer for me. That meant a more compact car, easier to park, cheaper to run. It opens up the options if it isn't an essential requirement.
Boot size is on the nice to have list for me, more importantly I need to get rid of the dirty diesel that mainly does less than 5 miles a trip nowadays. Was great when I was working in the office every day but now it doesn’t do many long runs and usually fails the emissions test on the MoT.

Put some Millers diesel go juice into the tank (one shot does 50ltr). It increases the cetane level of the fuel, so it burns better, is quieter, is cleaner and give a little mpg improvement (well it did when I had the Barge, and also in the T6). It also makes it go a little better as well, if you want . You could alternatively put Shell V-Power diesel in the tank instead;)

TBH, I wouldnt say the 3 or CX5 were that big. Both easy to park, but it was more keeping things out of view when in the car thats the big thing. :)
However I do understand what you're saying :)

OK.....what charger should I choose?

I would check with your leccy supplier for their preferred make and your model of car.

I had to switch leccy suppliers last year because despite the fact that OHME were the preferred make when I bought the car they and OVO had a falling out. Although it would continue to work with other makes of car.

I dismissed a car when looking and opted for my a4 as it fitted clubs in easy, then went down the trolley route and drop the 40% seat solely to make it quicker to put clubs away.

Completely agree that had I done this before buying a car I may have chose differently.
