The all things EV chat thread

Why are people anti EV?
If you don’t want one that’s fine, but why the need to go on the internet to keep telling people you don’t want one?
Bizzare 🤷‍♂️

Brother in law is looking at the Audi e-tron GT,he took one on a test drive yesterday & said the acceleration is mental.

I don't get it. The threads about EVs yet a 3rd of the posts are from the anti EV brigade with outdated views and misinformation.

Everytime the thread comes up you get a few derailers who want to say why they still don't want an EV. How X and y doesn't suit..nothing changing from before adding zero to the discussion just boosting their post count.

One of the Few posters with real bad issue with an EV that's worth listening to is @cliveb . Actual real world experience of a bad issue with his daughter. Yet any positive posts are knocked down as "a cult" because it can't be that people actually prefer it than before.

I used to be on a car forum before it closed. Long before EVs and always talked about cars. Yet now it's EV must be a cult

I've driven many cars over the years

Honda civic 51 plate
Mitsubishi colt 06 plate
Mitsubishi lancer 08 plate
Bmw 320d 06 plate
Golf 08 plate
Toyota auris hybrid 11 plate
Honda civic 59 plate
Honda hrv 18 plate
Corsa 20 plate
Seat Alhambra 16 plate
Kia niro 73 plate
Hyundai Kona 20 plate

Apart from the BMW which was very fun to drive the Kia blows them all out of the water

However the Alhambra had more power than the BMW due to upgrade in tech overtime

Ive driven EV since 2020 so 5 years now and I would not return to ice

Sure the savings are great but I prefer the driving and the lack of needing to leave My house to fill up is great.

Most information on this thread is ill informed, because many EV owners seem to need to justify ownership. Saving money via employers and tax, dealing with inconvenience of charging, yada, yada. It’s all water off a ducks back for them.

Those bringing an alternate view are lambasted.

BMW and many, many manufacturers build the tech into most of their cars, but not hardware into most cars. Heated seats need elements in the seat and not each and every model has those, so they can’t upgrade you at the press of a button. If a camera is not built in, you can’t activate it.

I think that’s what he meant by ill informed.

What exactly is inconvenient about plugging in at night and unplugging in morning then driving off with 250 miles of range? How often you driving 250 miles plus?

The Kia blows the rest out of the water, let’s be honest, it’s hardly a cracking list to begin with, with no disrespect.

Drive wise I'd give you but I mean the all round package , IE practically

Honda's were boring drives but I really enjoy the big boots etc

Bmw was fun to drive

However the Kia out performs it now in 0-60 etc

What, do ICE owners not top up their tanks every night. No, they don't. They drive until they need to top up, when a light comes on and you pass a fuel station within minutes and done. Anxiety is real. Friend forgets to charge his regularly and takes the wifes car, because of the poor status of charging facilities away from home. It's not all about 250 mile range is it?

The whole EV thing is failed by the network, unless you make changes to your way of life. Some are prepared to, some aren't. Yes, you can 100% get by happily with a sole EV, but not without change. Personally, I'm not ready for that change.

Nothing against the cars. My issue is the convenience versus ICE.

Glad it works for you though.

It's a tiny change of mindset. Charge overnight rather than when empty. So minor you adapt in days

I can pull in at most fuel stations now and add 50 miles in 10 mins to the car but I've public charged a total of 7 times in 18,000 miles

We at first kept one EV and one ice. It works so well that since Feb 24 we have been EV only and i charge my wife's car once a month and my car every 3 days on average .. don't have to top up all time if it doesn't suit

18000 miles and not once have I stopped just to charge

It's always when other things are going on
I'm asleep
Playing golf
At work
Or at a services with the kids either weeing or having lunch

It's really not the big deal the daily mail try to make out it is

For some it works very well , for others it’s not there yet - and there is a lot of work to be done to get to a place where it is the right car for anyone

But I’m not sure if EV is the end game for non petrol transportation because there are also the environmental issues surrounding the batteries both in the farming of the raw materials and soon what’s going to happen with the batteries when no longer required

Honestly, for me it would be, but I still like to park in the same spot at the golf club and get miffed if anyone else dares to :ROFLMAO:

The non EV owners do generalise, whereas the EV owners report in real life. I'm sure anyone at all could make it work IF THEY WANT TO and that's my only point really on the whole EV debate.

Does you mate also forget to charge his phone, smart watch or forget to brush his teeth?
Surely it’s not hard to remember 😉

Spot on. Attitudes are the biggest hurdle. People don't like change

The vaste majority of people who are anti EV could make the switch. They would suit a lot more people than claim they couldn't last. Even without off Street parking solutions are available it's just people's attitudes towards change

However if people just admitted that like yourself I respect that 1000 times more than the made up reasons

I don't want an EV .. nice and simple and more respectable than the big book of excuses. Environment rubbish another issue that comes up because Ice cars and refining and extracting oil from the earth is so clean compared. It's amazing how people will clutch at any straw when they have nothing to add

If he does, he can charge it in the car, the house, the office, or on the move with an external charging device. If we're off on a 200 mile trip, using his car and it has 70 miles left in it, we can't take it, unless we want to stop at Burger King for half a day and be late for a meeting.

The reply is as facetious as the question. EV's are not 'ready' was the point and well made.

I strongly disagree with the bottom statement.

For one if you can't factor in 30 mins leeway for a stop that's bad planning for the meeting anyways let's be frank.

In 30 mins you can add 200 miles to modern EVs

EVs are not the future they are the present.

If I woke up and forgot to charge or it failed or something I could pick any fast charger nearby (one 1 min away) and within 30 mins I'd have more than enough to get there. You wouldn't get in the car and be "oh crap" you would wake up. Check your phone, oh it didn't charge I best rush and get ready .. so you would be ahead of the game

But also if the meeting was that important much like Disney was I charged 2 nights before so it was full. Did 50 miles the day before Disney then charged again. So that I had definitely had charge.

It's really not difficult

Hyundai is £30 a year which whilst not free is a reasonable cost imo

Depends on what functionality you want, I’ve had to pay for the first time (just entering the 4th and final year of my lease) and I paid £99 for the year. I like the OTA updates and the £30 option doesn’t offer this.

Ah yes. My wife's doesn't get this option because her car isn't able to accept over the air updates so the option didn't present itself

However hats off to them for not trying to charge me for something I can't use lol days gone by companies would! Lol

I doubt I'd pay for the updates anyways as I can do them via a usb stick myself but not everyone can do accept £99 a year isn't a bad cost to save dealer visits

Don't need to strongly disagree, just disagree.

I am a meticulous planner. All meetings are important, or I wouldn't attend. He forgot. No big deal. My gas guzzler got us there and back without an issue.

What if we set off with 70 miles range and charging points were busy, broken, out of service. Oh and we have to plan the journey with charging on the route don't we. Not the best route, a route that suits the car.

Not for me.

In reality these things don't happen, you would need the worst luck imaginable .. but imagine woke up and your car didn't start. Same would happen then you get going need fuel but the garage is closed ... And then you get a puncture

That's the kind of luck you are expecting to happen
