The all things EV chat thread

That used to be the case, but it seems that AC is getting much more efficient these days.
If I turn on the AC in my petrol Skoda, it really makes very little difference to the fuel consumption.

That is because of inverter tech, my home air con has it makes it so much more efficient. Once at temp the inverter keeps it level to stop the spikes in usage

How's your daughter getting on with the Mg since the software fix for the charge.?

Sorry ? You have to pay for some functions of your car that you have paid for ?! 😂
Yes and this is not a Peugeot EV specific problem as they app is used on other of their vehicles as well.

When you read up on the app a very large part of it is used to advertise Peugeot and their dealer services.

I've not heard of any subsequent problems.

Mind you, she now chooses to use her petrol Skoda for long journeys. (The one that used to be my wife's that we gave to her and which we got some earache about. The thing she objected to was having to get a new cambelt as per the schedule. Seems she thought we should have done that before giving it to her! Your daughters are still little kids - you have this kind of nonsense to look forward to :ROFLMAO:)

I dont know that AC is becomming more efficient, but perhaps the air con compressor is now electricallt driven rather than belt driven along with other neccessary bits from the cam belt

Bmw been charging for years aswell .. not EVs but they build their cars with everything then charge you to use heated seats for example

Just an I'll informed reply from the usual suspect (not you)

Oh I don't doubt it my friend lol can't wait

Yeah I don't blame her if you have an issue like that it puts you off. Even when fixed you want rid . Once I had the window regulator replaced on the Corsa I was done. Build quality was so bad I sent it back after 3 years instead of 4 got the Kia and been delighted with that

the indicator add on is prohibitively expensive ;-)

But I think they have been "bullied" out of the subscription model recently?

Tesla do it best. All cars have autopilot available.. just pay an amount to add it anytime

My mate got one and didn't want it so they refunded him the 4k and just has to pay it again if he wants it

Great for second hand and production costs

Most manufacturers charge a subscription for remote services these days. Regardless of fuel type

Remember certain posters only add to this thread to add bashing EVs with no actual knowledge of how they work or what it's like to run one. Don't feed them

Where is the “ill informed” reply 🤷‍♂️

Most information on this thread is ill informed, because many EV owners seem to need to justify ownership. Saving money via employers and tax, dealing with inconvenience of charging, yada, yada. It’s all water off a ducks back for them.

Those bringing an alternate view are lambasted.

BMW and many, many manufacturers build the tech into most of their cars, but not hardware into most cars. Heated seats need elements in the seat and not each and every model has those, so they can’t upgrade you at the press of a button. If a camera is not built in, you can’t activate it.

I think that’s what he meant by ill informed.

Think you need to actually read what’s been said ?! There was no “specific bashing of EVs”

Someone said they were charged for using Apps in car and I thought that was mad - and that’s valid for an EV or ICE or a roller skate

Why are people anti EV?
If you don’t want one that’s fine, but why the need to go on the internet to keep telling people you don’t want one?
Bizzare 🤷‍♂️

Brother in law is looking at the Audi e-tron GT,he took one on a test drive yesterday & said the acceleration is mental.

It’s a bit of cult for some

Bit like Vegans - you will know someone has an EV car because they will tell you , they will also regal stories about how far each journey was and where they charged etc

Never used to hear about that stuff from people before EVs

When it comes to an EV there are a few things that are stopping me from getting one

Cost
Charging issues

Upfront costs of the car are generally higher for an EV - a lot of that is being overcome with things like Salary Sacrifice scheme

Charging is the key issue for me

I don’t have off road parking as our two spots are at the end of the row of houses so we can’t charge at home and charging at work is ridiculously expensive

So it’s not practical right now - hence why we are getting hybrids

A lot of the initial EV “boom” was all about emissions and “cleaner” methods of transportation but a lot of that is white elephant

For many there are still obstacles in the way for people to own an EV

Despite me trying to have a laugh at the evangelists, it turns nasty, because there simply isn't another point of view, so should just shut up if you have an opinion other than positive. Always ends up the same. Not sure why every EV owner loses their sense of humour, but as a discussion forum, they should be discussed, nit just hailed as the best thing ever.

It's not all about the 'facts', but, as you say, the convenience and it's not yet good enough for sole ownership, unless you are prepared to instil the inconveniences into your life plan. Blame your kids for needing a break when your battery needs charging etc. Madness.

Second car, home charger, tootling around locally - great option.

If we had off road parking to allow us to charge the car I suspect we would have got an EV as a second car mainly for the wife to pop to work and back a couple times a week and then to hockey
