What are the odds that fire at Luton Airport was caused by a tesla spontaneously combusting?
Pretty slim as Tesla don't make hybrids. What are the odds that fire at Luton Airport was caused by a tesla spontaneously combusting?
Those are interesting stats. Add together the number fires due to ICE and EV problems and you get 1555 per 100,000. What is it about having both systems in a car that makes a fire more than twice as likely? Something weird is going on, and I wouldn't be surprised if it was related to "lies, damn lies, and statistics".Pretty slim as Tesla don't make hybrids.
''Hybrids reflected the most at 3,475 fires per 100,000 vehicles. This is most likely because hybrids utilize two powertrains. ICE vehicles caught fire substantially less often, at 1,530 incidents per 100,000 vehicles. EV fires were significantly lower than the others, with 25 fires per 100,000 vehicles.''
So if you add them up it's about 5,000 in 100,000 or 1 in 20. That seems massively high, I've seen the occasional evidence of a car fire in places but 1 car in every 20 just seems incredible.Pretty slim as Tesla don't make hybrids.

Only if the 100,000 cars are a combination of Hybrid, ICE and EV. If it's 3,475 Hybrid fires per 100,000 Hybrid vehicles, etc etc, then it becomes 5,030 fires per 300,000 cars....which still seems quite high yo me.So if you add them up it's about 5,000 in 100,000 or 1 in 20. If it had been an EV, the fire wouldn't be out already as we're always being told EV fires are impossible to put outDiesel car started the thing. Obviously not the result you were hoping for.
My diesel car has had 2 recalls due to the potential of a component failing and causing a fire.Diesel car started the thing. Obviously not the result you were hoping for.
Are these numbers real? Hybrids are out a while now, and 3.5% of them caught fire?Pretty slim as Tesla don't make hybrids.

Not that the Toyota Prius doesn't deserve it, but that number seems excessive.
(aside) the charging station has caused parking issues on our road as it takes up space for four cars and the cars that used to park there now park on our road.
This raises an interesting point for me. Is there anything to prevent someone parking an ICE car in the bays at the charging station? I'm assuming that there aren't double yellow lines as that would mean no one could park there. And if someone did park there is there anything that could be done? Would they get fined and if so what rule would they be breaking?
I don’t think so…other than a time limit of four hours (or it might be two - off top of head I’m not sure) - and that rather scuppers residents parking. This raises an interesting point for me. Imagine how a driverless car would react in this situation. But this was obviously a software issue. Since a modern EV is basically a computer, moving the drive selector to "neutral" is just an input request which it may very well ignore. Gone are the days when the controls on a car are mechanically connected to the drivetrain. Scares the willies out of me.
Incidentally, my daughter has a ZS EV, and is a bit concerned.
