Teeofftimes

Yes Tee Off Times and GolfNow are the same company, have been for years.

If the deal is a hot deal then the club gets 0 of the fee. I am sure if you rang the club and said about the deal they would be willing to match the price as then at least they get the fee (albeit less than their green fee).

Ive found that to not be the case.

That is very strange, I can understand them not wanting to give a completely different time of the day for the same price. But surely if you said, look ill go out 10 mins before or after that time for the same price they would be happy?

I've found asking for the same price as on TOT/GN sometime gets a "well go and book it on there then". Agreed it's very odd behaviour. If your club is prepared to allow cheap times on TOT then don't moan about people asking for the same deal.

I used Golfnow last week whilst away and grabbed a couple of cheaper lunch time deals with no problems

The thing is, when you use ToT/GolfNow you have to pay up front as a guarantee. Some clubs are only willing to take the low green fee on that basis I think.

That's correct with GolfNow, they will generally refund only if the Club closes the course on the day, you cannot simply cancel your booking. I booked one round last week and the Club closed the course for a competition and therefore Golfnow refunded the charge.

The club don't get any of the green fee if it is a hot deal which is why it is paid in advance. It goes straight to ToT/GolfNow

There was one time we payed a hot deal on ToT and we turned up at the course and only 9 holes were open with 9 temp greens. We spoke to the pro shop and they said they get none of that money so there is nothing they can do. ToT had great support though and refunded us the green fee after speaking with the club to confirm the situation.

They only get the fee when it is a full price on ToT/GolfNow (which is my experience is the same price as just rocking up at the course). In my experience, when I have booked a time which is not a hot deal, I pay at the course as normal rather than pre-paying.

The 'Hot Deal' is only one tee time per day though. Does anyone know what percentage the club and GolfNow split on the other times??

And no it's not the same price at all. I've use ToT countless times to get a £20 green fee where the full price is £30 for example, and not on hot deals, it's throughout the day. At some courses it's the same, but there are often loads of cheaper fees on ToT.

ive found the same to be true, some are the same some are quite a bit cheaper on ToT. I'll aways check the course website but also others like teeoff and teetime to see if i can get a better deal, im not fussed who gets the money.

Yeah, one time we played GrimsDyke, booked it on TeeOffTimes for about £18. The guys in the pro shop asked us how much we paid and they were shocked how low it was - and that wasn't a hot deal, just a regular time. I think their full green fee was almost double that.

Interesting, most of the ones I have seen are the same price as the pro shop price.

There are times during the winter I have seen it different. Some of the clubs don't advertise a winter rate but when you ring them up you can actually get it cheaper than their stated website price.

TBH I dont use it that much any more as when playing away I just play in opens as that normally represents the best value.

I don't think I have ever paid the full green fee that is advertised on a club website unless it is a reduced winter rate.

I have. There are still some places where their memberships are full and they can charge what they think is a reasonable charge. St Annes Old Links being the one that springs to mind.

PS Worth it too.

I’m not sure if it’s different for every club, I believe “our” deal with them is they don’t charge us as such, we give them one free 4 Ball a day were they keep 100%. (Certain restrictions apply)

Can I ask what you as a club get in return for giving away this tee time for free?

Yeah that is true. I personally would never pay the £280 that RCD are asking but managed to get an open comp there for £50 last year.

Well well well. I've been watching the prices all week, as you know, wondering where to play, I've got some things that I could link up to if I played certain courses, but today, poof ! all change in prices. "Hot Deals" galore for tomorrow. Change of plans and off to my fav local course. Smashin'

The club is on tot and the business they generate goes to the club the free tee time makes money for tot as a way of payment.
It can be good for clubs but not if it dosnt generate any business .
They also get money from food / drink etc.
It’s a good idea used in the USA more than here, but as stated there are some very low prices so you should just jump on them.
Even if the course is average £4/£5 is a no brainier.

Makes sense I guess, but for me personally most clubs in my area that are advertised on TOT are usually pretty poor courses. I'm far from a golf snob but I'd almost be put off by any club that has to give away tee times on TOT.

Thats just like the Yanks think , If it’s cheap it must be crap!
So clubs put their prices up.
tOT lets you try somewhere new at a reasonable cost .
Golf is overpriced as it is so any bargins are welcome.

The trouble is here in Surrey is we have some top courses nearby so it's easy to look down on certain courses.

Just because a course is cheap doesn't necessarily make it a bargain. I've paid 3 figures for some courses and felt that was a bargain.
