Has anyone played Carnoustie in winter recently? I know it's fairway mats which is fine but is it any good otherwise? I only live about an hour away and fancy playing it but not at the peak season prices!!

The website says "The courses will be shortened with a minimum of 6 greens being rested and depending on the daily ground conditions winter greens may come into effect on some or all of the holes."

What does this bit actually mean? 6 greens on winters even if the weather is decent?!

Reads to me that they’d have a minimum of 6 winter greens and depending on the frost maybe more.
Could be wrong with that though, strange for Carnoustie if that’s the case

If it’s bad enough for them to go to all temps, you probably don’t want to be playing anyway.

They normally rest greens in winter, when I played there a few years back in January there were 8 temps. I’ll point out though that their temp greens were better than some club’s normal greens.

Agreed, I wouldn't be bothering if it's frosty but if forecast looks mild 2 or 3 days in advance I might give them a phone for a tee time.

Did you find it decent enough when you played? Still worth the experience?

Yeah, it was alright. As I say, the temps were pretty good “greens”.

It is very different to playing the beast that is the full, summer course. But it’s still pretty decent.

Cheers. I did see the green few was about £100 cheaper during April than peak season.I assume it's full course with no restrictions so might give that a go .
