How is your course shaping up after winter and the dry spring?

Our Greenies have, quite frankly, performed miracles with our greens turning them from slow, bouncy and ssslllooowww......
To smooth, true and with a bit of pace in the space of a week.
I know they Verti-cut them but they must have waved a magic wand over them too.
Not all heroes wear capes......

It’s amazing what a bit of warmth overnight and water will get the greens going - at times we just need to be a little patient to understand that we are at the mercy of the weather even with a watering system

Our course is looking good. New greenkeepers started last year and came in with new ideas - both physically for the course and to present the course better. Coupled with extended financial help from the club finally releasing the shackles on our rainy day fund, the course is improving every week. The greens staff keep the members updated in the weekly newsletter, which is quite comprehensive and details what they are doing as well as , more importantly, why they are doing it. They have changed how they mow the fairways, improved the aprons and are now altering size and shape of the rough to stop balls going OOB or into penalty areas if you get a dodgy bounce/run after a good shot.

I struggle to get my head around how nice my new track actually looks all the time :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: Should have moved years ago, silly for staying put for so long!

My dad is also absolutely loving it which is great too!

We still have not had any rain for nearly 3 weeks and it is showing.
We overseeded several greens and the on course pheasant population are loving them.

Our greens aren't getting any better, if anything they are getting worse. Had a quick chat with the club captain last night as he was coming off the course just asking him what he thinks. He was saying they are watering them often but it just seems to be keeping the grass alive, nothing is growing.

After our round yesterday evening the next 3 groups that came in all to a man had a whinge about the greens without anyone prompting them. I'm not sure what the greenkeepers can do about it though, no rain still and every night it's still dropping to 5C and below. A lot of the fairways now look like how you would expect a links course to look in July, they are getting baked out, are rock hard and yellow grass everywhere.

Our greens are much improved, and the fairways considerably better than they have been, but the tees are absolutely awful. No sign whatsoever that they have had any water, they are patchy and it is a real struggle to get a tee in the ground.

Our greens were slow and bobbley as they hollow tined them during a very cold dry spell, but they have been watering them now and with the warmer weather they are getting better.
The problem we have is the amount of bare patches, if you miss a green (standard shot for me) the ball then will sit in a bare patch, i just cant see these recovering and it is now the most talked about subject in our club
However the course looks great with all the leaves on the trees and the blue skies we have been experiencing , and this time last year we'd had so much rain that the course was a bog......

Same .
Old courses suffer from this were they put irrigation in for the greens but didn’t do the tees.

The annoyance is that our tees have irrigation but for whatever reason they don’t appear to be using it. A lot of the sprinklers are overgrown with grass, so clearly aren’t in use.

There are limits to how much water a club can use I think .
But I don’t know the ins and outs of it!

Well, I have to say the turnaround in ours in just ten days has been nothing short of breathtaking. Greens mint, aprons well manicured, and fairways and first cut spot on.

The issue with the tees was broken irrigation but that is sorted and they are already on the way back.

With the ever changing climate these irrigation systems will be worth their weight in gold

We haven't had rain in ages. Can't say I miss it. Wonderful golfing weather and with two big lakes of water being used to keep the course in tip top condition long may it continue
