Teeing in line with or behind markers - not that difficult is it?

The OP is right - it is really easy so I'm bewildered how anyone gets it wrong. Maybe some people believe that they have to tee up directly between the markers and aren't aware that they can go back a bit. If you're trying to be dead on the line then you're more likely to be slightly forward occasionally. I'm usually 6 to 18 inches back just so that I don't have to think about it.

Maybe the playing partners were not stood in the HNSP and therefore could see that he was teeing up in the wrong place ;)

This is correct. If they had been standing in the HNSP the error of his ways would have been very clear. But it was so very obvious in any case there was no need to stand in HNSP :)

If you were in the clubhouse you must have been 30 yards behind them assuming they were playing off the yellows. Good eye sight for an old timer.

It often depends on who your playing with and what kinda game your having, friendly game with friends or match with friends or a comp.
I often tee up on the line of the tees I used to get it wrong simply by not checking but now I do check and Ive not teed outside of the markers for a long time now.

If playing in a comp or a matchplay serious game with friends then Id always be extra careful I'm not going to give any shots away for free ;)

a mate I played with the other day didn't notice that he had tee'd up on the ladies tee.....I pulled him on it as he addressed the ball, he said just laughed & hit his drive thinking I was joking. When he realised I wasn't he was very sheepish. Only a knock with the 2 of us, so wasn't a major thing....but he pays far more attention now

No need to tee anywhere near the line between the markers - so always just tee 18" back and save yourself any embarrassment. I'll sometimes go even further back to where I have nice stance and no divots between my feet and the ball. And that could be three feet back.

Well you can tee it up close the line it takes a second to just see if its not in-front of the line
I think the point of this thread is that people dont check enough.

you can - but I never do as most folk seem to like to be close to the line and especially on par 3s and that just ends up with a mess of repaired or unrepaired divots.

I think your always going to get the divots, close to the line or little further back, I saw a divots the weekend it looked like it was made with a shovel
