It is chosen... Mostly to keep the Sponsors & TV companies happy, though players can request to play with other players too...
Either way the combinations oft prove good viewing.
Or at least this is what its like on the first day.
Second day groups remain the same, but if a group teed off in the morning the previous day then the second they will be later in the day. And vice-versa.
3rd & final days it is all to do with where they are on the leaderboard. The better the score the later in the day the tee off, this therefore dictates who plays with whom. Also to add to this, if a number of players are on the same score its chosen as to which order amoungst the running score, the cards are handed in.
The timings for the second day seem a bit odd. I would have thought that first off day one would be last off day two but no. Instead they are two groups (1 - 26) and (27 - 52); group one starts first day one, then second day two but in the same group order.
The 'bigger' names are all in the middle of each group.
Should be an 'open' draw for start times. I hate seeding in all competitions.
The only thing I think the R&A do is to try and put one player from each continent together so you get a European tour pro and USPGA pr and then one from the Asian/Australian/Challenge tours
my list has the first of the 'big' names Calcavecchia in the 6th group (7.25) and the last of the morning 'big' names, Monty, in the 17th (9.31).
in the afternoon Cabrera is in group 30 (12.14) and the last Appleby in Group 43 (14.42).
There are no 'big' names outside of those time brackets, so who do you have going off at 14.30, I only have Garcia/Imada/O'Hair followed by Appleby/Snedecker/Fisher.
it's the same as mine. It's just that all the 'names' are grouped in the middle of their respective halves - none starting really early, none finishing really late.
