Sunningdale - You will not be dissapointed

I think for handicap golf the answer is to have male/female SSS from every tee, let golfers play from the tees that suits their ability and adjust handicaps as appropriate for any competition. I think it's daft in handicap comp with a wide range of abilities to insist everyone plays from the same tees.

When they are going around at the moment giving UK courses a slope rating, do you know if they are giving each set of tees an SSS for men as well as women?

If not, they should be.

I don't think they are. We changed a few red tees this year and got the course re-rated. I made the point a few times that the yellows and whites should get a women's SSS while they were at it and I thought the committee had agreed it was a good idea. It didn't happen though :(

Loved the New Course last year, condition etc but real downer was the pace of play with it taking 5.25 hrs to play the round ......

Worst thing was that we went through 9 in a shade over 2 hrs then the whole round collapsed which really spoiled it.

Glenbervie got the red tees rated for men as the seniors play a comp from them once a month, not sure if they done the reverse. But I agree all tees should have a SSS for both men & ladies.

We didn't see one other group on the old course in the afternoon!!

Bad form that.

We did consider Sunningdale off the whites, but consulted a few people who had played from the whites, as well as the club and there are some carries that would trouble a good enough amount for us to make the decision to play off the yellows. In the past we have left it up to people if they want to play off longer tees, but due to the organising 60-odd golfers round once, suited, booted, fed and out again we had to go with this.

We are doing NZ off the whites on the Friday am round though.

Thats a fair explanation. Thanks.

I played 36 at Sunningdale on Wednesday too, 4th time round there in the last 5 years, absolutely love the place. It doesn't matter where I play, I don't ever think of the course length and wish it was longer or shorter, just whether I enjoyed playing the course or not. I always find Sunningdale tougher than I like too, every time I think i'll do better but a few of the blind shots and the heather usually put paid to that. Even trying to play sensible saw shots hit something and cannon off 15 yds sideways into trees and bundu, but I still love playing there.

My fav hole has always been this one, I stiffed an 8 iron to 3 foot yesterday and sunk the putt for birdie, made my day.

Yesterday was the first time I sampled the sausage sandwich (previously always started on 14), it wasn't what I was expecting (wrap the slice of bread around the sausage), but was a good sausage, could of actually split it quite happily and settled for half. The carvery roast is pretty good too, and for £200 all in, is a great day out.

thats the hole we let Shevchenko play through on. were you there with the dentist society? did you hear about the guy who snapped his driver on the first tee before he had even teed off??? :D

my best hole was the 10th on the old course, hit 3 wood just short of the last bunker then 9iron to about 6ft. rolled it in

I was indeed playing with the Dentists, though not one myself. Didn't hear about the driver snapping on the first, only heard about one guy doing his back in and having to be carried off the course.

Any tips - I'm wondering whether to take my 3 wood or my 1-Iron.

I'm pretty straight with my one iron, and when the course is firm it can run for miles. Was it firm, or lush?

I am also in the 1-iron God club (we refused Trevino's application, BTW).:D;)

i wouldn't have said it was particularly firm, but then again I played the day after all that rain on Tuesday night!

I hit 4iron off most tees which will go past the large proportion of people's drivers.

despite all the heather, it's tough to lose balls

that is a proper long 3 wood!! :D. Two big whacks to get close for us mere mortals

Last time I played there I cocked up my drive and hit a 3 wood in to 9 inches. Length ain't everything
