Slope index - will we ever see it?

Im assuming slope index is grated in relation to category of HC?

The USGA slope rating of a golf course is a mark that describes the measure of difficulty for a bogey golfer relative to a scratch golfer at a specific set of tees. It describes the fact that when playing on a more difficult course, the scores of higher-handicapped players will rise more quickly than those of lower handicapped golfers. The slope rating of a set of tees predicts the straight-line rise in anticipated score versus USGA course handicap, as in the mathematical slope of a graph.

A slope rating is calculated from the difference in a bogey course rating and a scratch course rating, more commonly known as the course rating. This difference is multiplied by 5.381 to get a men's slope rating or 4.240 to get a women's slope rating.[2] Course ratings (bogey and scratch) are determined by course raters, who measure and record more than 460 numbers on a course rating form for each set of tees.

Go and play Beauport Park in Hastings.
One of the toughest tracks I have ever played.
If you play to your handicap around there I'll pay your green fee.

Played it once, handicap gone in 2 holes, proceded to play to 5 times my h/cap, it's a mutha of a course especially after a week of rain
I won't be back.

This has been something I've been thinking about but never bothered too much about as can never see the system changing.

To me, the plus of using the slope system is you are playing your handicap to the course par.

With CSS/SSS at most courses you are more than likely looking at a couple of shots under the par. I know and I do focus on shooting the lowest score I can and everything else will take care of itself but at the back of my mind I can't get round thinking par isn't good enough at some holes for me to play handicap golf.

The way I've tried to tackle this mental approach is for example if its a par 72 and the SSS is 70 I'll say right I'm a 3 handicapper today instead of 5 so before I set off, I've got it in my head I need to be around that instead of 5 over as I suppose thats what the slope system would do anyway?

Surely that's what the current SSS system does. Par 72 and SSS 70 means you have to shoot nett 70 to play to handicap. Or have I misinterpreted your point?

No, I've not explained myself that well and don't think I can...

I played a match against a team who were far better than us - played their course and their 20 handicap is a 12 handicap without a doubt - their course was much much more difficult.


In this case would we have been give a few shots due to the slope rating - then how could you play in teams eg 20+ competitions and 3or less handicappers only etc????
