Sadly I think that the days of getting Sky half price at the slightest threat of leaving are disappearing. sky Cinema is now nearly pointless as other streaming channels get the biggest films first, the cost of sporting rights are going up and up and I guess now it is not just trying to get numbers, it is trying to get as much as possible out of each subscriber. Many of the unique selling points with Sky are now done by other people better or cheaper.

Nice to see some discounts are there but I am not sure that I have the time to spend the day fighting for them.

It is definitely harder this time around for me than it has been previously.

I've been with BT for last 2 years as I couldn't get sky at my house, although now with sky stream I could.

BT is not as smooth as sky, but it's ok. I have the basic package plus all of the sky sports, all of the BT sport's, plus fibre internet and phone. We don't have movies or the specialist sky channels.

We pay £73 a month...not cheap, but not expensive.

I took a quick look the other day and was trying to find the Sky package that does about what we currently have with Virgin. The internet speeds they were offering on Sky weren't exactly earth shattering.

-Currently have 2 boxes (one in the garage in front of a treadmill).
-We have basic entertainment style of channels, they threw in some movie channels that are nearly worthless....just repeat after repeat. As much as I like Rio Lobo.....enough.
-No sports....occasionally record something off Eurosport like cycling/track+field....not worth paying for though.
-We already have signed up to Netflix, Prime, Paramount + Disney

Wouldn't mind getting HBO or Atlantic.....

I've been with sky for never 20 years. Always threatened to leave and always get a decent offer to stay. Currently paying £20odd for everything but movies and sport (Which is where the real cost is) as it's the best service by far for live TV and recording. If it ever came that I was made to pay full price, we'd probably get rid.

Sky seem to have everybody in the palm of their hand. Customers do not/cannot win. I asked today how many customers they have and she said around 10m. If the average increase was £6 monthly that would equate to £720m each year for ever and a day.

She did say that they have increased costs!

A quick question for you tech guys. We have HD and could save £6 monthly cancelling The HD. How much difference is there with SD please? We have a good TV so for £1.50 per week I wonder whether it is worth it.

Do not find many people who think that Sky is fantastic.

this depends what you watch. If it just BBC, ITV etc then you get them HD anyway. If it’s sport, sky max etc then it’s probably worth the £6

I've got so used to HD quality that SD just looks rubbish now (and as a cynic, you might say they've made the SD feeds worse). To me, it's worth every penny. But if you ONLY watch terrestrial HD channels - you get those included without the HD package anyway.

I've personally never had a problem with Sky and have always received top notch service.

You'd think after 18 or so years of that they'd think "you know what.. this guy is all talk. I don't think he'll leave."

We renewed a few months ago. We had to cancel and then got a decent offer about a week before our 30 days notice period was up.

Sky Q, multi room (1 extra box), full package (including movies & sports) and Netflix Premium for £57 per month. We had netflix anyway so just took offer to include within sky bill. Only thing missing is BT Sport.

TV licence? Also, is the likes of Netflix not a TV package?
Yes we buy a TV license, much to my annoyance. Netflix is not a TV package like Sky, Virgin etc as it doesn't deliver live TV. It's a steaming service. It only costs a tenner a month.

We repackaged recently as part of our move. The price was reduced from around £80 to around £60, but they have just put the price hike out back on.

With regards to the SD vs HD, there is no choice. Watching SD is like watching with oil smeared across the screen, just grainy and fuzzy, it’s awful.

As usual....I begin to slowly torture myself trying to decide whether to switch or not. There is nothing on Virgin that I would miss if I switched to Sky....other than better internet.

And Internet I'm assuming for that price.

So I've just complete the 'I'm going to cancel' dance with Sky. My present package is the standard one plus the sports and kids channels and multiroom (2 additional boxes) and I was paying £45pm for that and Sky had suggested that my April bill was going to be £67 and then May onwards was £75pm.

I started off with the first level of defence who, after thanking me for being a long standing customer, told me that as of May they could reduce my payments to £70pm. I thanked them for their generous offer but would be declining as Virgin had offered me better and would they put me through to their cancellation team. After a subsequent offer of £68pm I was put through to the cancellation (retention) lot who were able to find all sorts of deals that might make be stay on as a customer. Anyway, after all the attempted upselling (trying to flog me broadband etc) we settled on me paying £48pm for the next 2 months which would then reduce to £44pm from month 3 until 18. I have no idea why it's like that however was happy to take what was on offer.

That is some result with Sky. Great effort, any tips?

That is a brilliant deal. I thought my sky deal was great with sports, films, netflix, 1 additional sky q mini box and superfast broadband at £91
