Well, I'm not there yet, but prepping the thread ready to update...

Fly tomorrow, staying in a friends apartment for 7 nights, which is located on La Torre Golf, so that's our first round on Wednesday, then we have La Serrana and Lo Romero booked to play as a two ball. Some other friends are playing with us on the other days, so two courses I don't yet know.

Last time there, I hired clubs and they were expensive and naff, so taking a set of Mizuno MP32 (3-PW), an old Ping 3 wood, Mizuno 7 wood and an ancient Ping sand wedge. Fifty quid each way, so cheaper than hiring and may leave them there. That said, only hit them once and they're not the most forgiving, but again, hiring is a lottery, so at least I will have consistency across the week. I will borrow a putter and bag, but packed a dozen balls, a few tees and my golf watch, which says it works over there.

The resort (say that loosely) has everything in terms of food and drink options, so will be rough as a bears wotsit most days, but a little cooler now, we're playing afternoons, so plenty of time to recover prior to playing. My view for the week

Sounds great, not jealous at all!

Why not take your usual set of clubs if you’re going to the trouble of take another set?

You could hire some clubs from Galaxy Golf. I think they have a shop at Los Alcazeres.

Lo Romero is a cracker, not played the other 2.

Enjoy.

Wasn't impressed by La Torre, bog standard GNK course (they all follow the same blueprint) and found that the bar and restaurant area down by the practice areas to be a bit run down and dated. We only got drinks so can't comment on food.

If the other course is La Serena (down towards San Javier/Roda area) then take plenty of balls is my advice. Nice course but so many hidden water hazards. You'll think you've piped your drive right down the fairway, only to find the fairway runs out and you're in the drink. I enjoyed it overall but my companions didn't after finding the water too many times unexpectedly.

Roda is a fun little course nearby. La Romero is the best, by far, of what you have organised.

My friend lives on La Torre and I've stayed a dozen times.

Yes, the course isn't the best, but we walk to the first tee and get a round in. I've played all the ones you mentioned and some more. As said, it isn't the Ryder Cup, just a couple of lads enjoying a week in the sun, with a round of golf during the day to save our livers.

Pro shop is existent, but the clubhouse does ok food. The golf course is on the resort, so no need to use the clubhouse, with much better options 50 yards away.

The resort food options are fine, the drinks are cheap and there's a good bunch on there to enjoy each evening. Steak, Italian, Indian, Tapas, Bistro - everything bar Chinese on site and Roldan is 8 Euro's in a taxi. Add to that, several drinking options. It is certainly not run down and one of the resorts that came out of Covid fairly well. The lake by the town square has drainage issues, so does make it look a bit tired, but otherwise it's a great value for money place to stay, especially when it is free for me.

Each to their own but we found it a bit run down. But if it works for you, knock your pan in.

Your mate lives in the bar? Odd but ok.
You will note that my comment was specific to one area. I didn’t inspect people’s houses whilst there.

And what has being from Fife to do with anything?

I'm pulling your leg. Honestly, spoiling my trip before I have arrived doesn't offend me at all.

I agreed with you, the golf facilities aren't up to the standard expected, but for me (it's my trip), we will play and move on, so I'm not too bothered what the facilities offer, as long as the course is ok - bog standard will be fine - lots more to try.

Played La Torre, course wasn't great. Don't know the other 2 courses. El Valle is by far my favourite of the Nicklaus group of courses down there, see if you can swap for this one. Las Colinas is my other favourite in the area.

Generally we've stayed at Mar Menor and headed into Los Alcazares for dinner. Resort restaurants pretty poor unless your requirements are limited to a burger or full English. But I don't know if La Torre has better options.

I’m taking a spare set and not likely bringing them back. My mate met me outside the terminal and I stuffed my bits in his travel bag. Again, he’s not bringing anything back.

I will either hire or borrow a putter.

Well, the trip has been a bit of a disaster in terms of golf played, with just one round in La Torre.

The storms came in on day two and now subsided, the clean up means most are still closed, or limited, but looks like we can get out Sunday and Monday, although so will all the other golfers.

La Torre is basic, but we got a round in and I played well. Went to a local hire place and asked to hire a driver. Response was we only hire full sets at €15 a day, but after chatting a while, left with a TaylorMade Qi35 for the grand sum of €20 for the week.

Let’s hope it gets some use.

Seen some footage yesterday from Quesada near where we used to live, the golf course there (La Marquesa) is basically submerged under water.

Hope you get some golf in before you head home, but on the flip side, at least you haven't spent a small fortune on a golf trip that would have been a washout.
