Should I go back to the shop?

I think you are stuffed, i had some new Wilson Staff Ci9 irons and noticed bag clatter marks to the backs, thankfully they were chrome and polished out, since then i use headcovers if in my carry bag.

AG will be sympathetic and then sell you an expensive set of headcovers.. STOP

look on ebay for £10 you can get some decent covers, many with Brand names Cobra, Mizuno etc etc and clear window to see the club loft no.

I feel your pain i hate seeing my stuff damaged as i like to keep them looking good

I fully understand the soles and faces will mark from ball strikes, but not the backs

I nearly got Ci11 irons but as they are a black finish i steered clear for the same reason you are seeing

That's bad, they abviously don't make clubs to wear like they used to.Iron head covers is the only way to prevent this,or those plastic tube dividers in your bag.

Definitely no harm in asking. I had some R9's and the plastic insert at the back of the 7 iron came out after a few weeks. The retailer didn't want to know citing wear an tear so you may be unfortunate. Hope it works out

I would take them back, for them to be looked at. Maybe a faulty paint batch for all you know. It can do no harm to ask anyway. I would be fed up if they were mine. All that money for shoddy goods.

Wear and tear happens.
I've a 3week old Titleist 3wood and the black face looks as if it's been tied to the back of a pickup and dragged for a couple of miles.
Mind you my 2 year old i10s don't have a blemish on them.

With modern paint technology would think that the manufacturer would use a more durable paint finish especially on clubs which will take a lot of abuse.

However as has been pointed out there is no excuse today for not fitting covers.

I would suggest contacting the store where you bought the clubs as your contract including any warranty claim is with the shop not the manufacturer. If the shop give you no joy I would write direct to Cobra asking if they are aware of any batch issues and politely ask if they could advise where you can purchase some touch up paint. It is very possible they'll send you the paint FOC.

I'm surprised at some of these responses. It's paint FFS, it bares no impact on the clubs functionality...if you came to me and asked about them, I'd certainly have to old back laughter out of politeness.

Roughly 5 miles of being bashed about and ou think rubbing is not acceptable.

Isn't this just a protective coating from manufacture to buyer & is supposed to come off? Afterall who'd step onto the course with such a colour on their clubs?

Anyway after seeing this I went to check my King Cobra II's & would you believe it, not a sign of orange paint anywhere!!! Nada, zip, not a fleck! so I'd suggest its not supposed to be there ;)

The fact this is paint is the issue. and a bright colour at that. Most people saying "mine aren't like that. Don't have an area of exposed brightly coulours paint like the AMP. As annoying as you might find it there is no way they could have given a paint job to sustain metal on paint contact.

Still if you don't ask you don't get so worth checking and seeing if something can be done, at the very least it will result in all future sales having headcovers pushed with them. In the meantime get yourself some covers. I'd say the lower loft irons are more prone to this rubbing due to the angle on them. Even if you just had cover on alternate clubs it would reduce the risk of this getting worse or happening on other clubs.

Just got back from AG, the guys were pretty helpful and have sent it back to Cobra for me. They agreed that that's not great for a week old and only two round of golf.

I take very good care of my golf clubs, they are stored upright in my hallway, are cleaned after every shot and it drives me nuts seeing them less than perfect, as has been pointed out, if they are like that after 1 week what will they be like after 8 months. That being said I don't think it is bag clatter, I think they might have got lodged together when I put them in the back of my car and caused that damage that way. I looked this morning at how much movement there is while I'm walking around the course and the clubs barely move at all, and definitely not enough to cause that much damage.

We'll wait to see what Cobra say, hopefully they'll sort it out and send it back, if they don't then I'll pay them to sort it out. In the meantime I'm scouring eBay for some nice headcovers!

I have these head covers but if you wait you will see them listed from the UK

They cost about £10 a set and protect them very well, quick to take off, slip in pocket take shot clean club slip back on again

I got 2 sets (in case I lose some) of the same ones minus branding. Nice headcover and bag chatter is greatly reduced. Trying to convince a friend to get them as he carries and has a habit of walking on while you take your shot. The rattle is annoying as hell!

swanny im you on your thoughts about the quality of the club being able to last longer than a week,we pay bloody good money for these items and dont expect bits to fall off them with the slightest knock.....

I would expect Cobra to look after ya.........
