Scottish Fitba'

Heard a stat the other day that we've won 10 (yes, 10) group qualification games in a row. Didn't believe it so had to Google it. It's true enough, we won the final 6 in WC quals. That's never happened, ever.
This is the best team we've had in decades. I'd even go so far to say it's probably better than the 98 WC team. That had some very decent individuals in it, but so does this group.
Having said all that we all know the banana skin is coming. Just hope we don't scupper this.
I read somewhere that the last 18 games were
Won 14
Drawn 1
Lost 3
Not shabby.

Hearts at home for first game of season…what a relief as previous seasons StJ seem to have got into the rut of opening with an away game against one of the OF - almost inevitably resulting in a gubbing.

Hearts at home - good visiting support guaranteed and though a tough game it’s one that both sides will be looking positively towards and to win.

Jota off to Saudi for £10m a year tax free. Crazy and depressing in equal measure. He will be missed, a great entertainer.

Talk of Hatate going there as well.

£25m is the rumoured fee. Sounds too low for a chap who we signed last season and has a few years remaining on his contract.

Just signed that Tilio and looking at that Korean winger. Just have to hope they can fill the gap Jota leaves

Is Ange likely to come calling for any of his star players?

Not too sure if I am honest. Only players I can see he would want would be CCV, Hatate and Kyogo. However not sure if they are the signings Levey and Spurs would want to get the fans on side.

Can't blame Jota for going, it's supposedly eye watering amount of money he's getting. Think his replacement is already here in the Aussie winger.

Viaplay paid upfront, so hopefully they will still show the cup and Scotland games next season.
Viaplay:‘We have initiated a review for our International markets, including the UK, where we will seek optimal solutions for our operations, including partnerships. Until then it is business as usual, what our customers can watch on Viaplay today will be there tomorrow.’

Found myself watching some YouTube videos of Celtic and Rangers matches mid 60s to early 70s and Celtic especially were just brilliant, though their brilliance made Rangers ‘almost’ their equal.

Of course even as a St Johnstone supporter I knew all the players of both teams, but didn’t realise just how good they were. Watching great Celtic players giving the ball to Jimmy ‘Jinky’ Johnstone and almost telling him to ‘go on - take the rip out of the defence’ you see, if you didn’t before really appreciate why ‘jinky’. And likes of Auld and Wallace, just brilliant players among a team of brilliance that raised to a completely new level the standard of Scottish football from what it had been just a very few years previously.

And I had also forgotten how great Rangers players such as Baxter, Jardine, Greig, Johnstone and Henderson were. Aye, thems were days of great Scottish players, and it’s fascinating watching the old firm games of the time.

Wallace was a great goal scorer for Hearts.
He obviously got 'tapped up' by Celtic and his scoring skills miraculously dried up until the club transferred him to Celtic.
Bertie Auld was the general of the Lisbon Lions team superb player.
I always thought Henderson was a better winger than Jinky, more direct pace and he generally got his crosses in.
BY the way loads of Scots children of that era grew up knowing the wee green flicking light man on a pedestrian crossing as Jinky.

Indeed Henderson was brilliant, yes more direct getting round the full backs and getting crosses in for the likes of Ferguson, Stein, Willoughby and later on Derek Johnstone..all four great forwards.

Johnstone would beat a player than go back and beat him again, and when the defender‘s mate came along to help out he’d nutmeg one of them then dribble round the other…twice…OK so I might be exaggerating - but only just - then he’d cut into the box and more often than not unleash a shot goalwards…🤣
