Rory walks off the course

I've said it once and ill say it again,he has no b game - every pro seems to have a safe swing/shot shape, it's its going Pete tong they go plan b.

Rory as much as I love he's aggressive approach doesn't have a backup, he just goes into self destruct.....

As for the tooth, if models can find 24hr dentists to work on teeth, what makes a number 1 sports star any different

The sad thing is he was honest with is statement,"my head is just not here" or something along those lines, his manager
also said is not hill, hurt and did not understand what is going on, them the PGA issues the fake statement. what a joke.

Wow - watching Sky and they are completely toeing the toothache party line. No mention of the initial statements from earlier from both McIlroy and his agents, or the sandwich he was scoffing during the round. Looks like they're worried about advertising revenue or maybe it's just the cynic in me.

I don't buy the "he's young" line.
He's been a Pro since 2007 and was virtually a Pro for a couple before that - he knows the score..he knows how to behave.
As has been said, would he have walked off if he was in contention - I doubt it.
Poor, poor show

So much for me saying he would win it ;),.......Faldo gets he's knocks but the guy seemed to be talking sense when he said it was a bad move for Rory.
I know one thing Rorys going to spent some hard time on the range this weekend.....

Agree if he's playing crap and looked like he was going to shoot in the 80's so be it,other top players have seen it through the bad rounds......

Agree with every word Imurg, he's 23 for god's sake, if he was my son his ears would be bleeding

Well you don't have to be a PR genius to see that this is not very good looking for Rory, but I think before piling in with condemnation it is worth remembering that none of us can possibly relate in even the slightest to the pressure and weight of expectation of being world number 1, the next Tiger, with the biggest equipment contract in the history of the game. I don't think for a second Rory wasn't trying to play well, although he had clearly missed the cut by a mile.

His talent for playing golf hasn't evaporated, and he can play with Nikes as well as Titleists. It will all work out and this will be forgotten.

Disgraceful IMO. He is the no1 golfer. You do not do things like this when you are in that position. He needs to get his head together and fast.

Agreed. You watch though, he'll escape punishment by blaming his teeth.

I won't forget it - I still remember Ronan ' I'm just going for a slash' Rafferty.

But in all seriousness he has made it more difficult for himself next time he goes out. WGC Cadillac at the Blue Monster, he'll be dealing with a lot of negative media attention and possibly a very negative/ vocal gallery

That is a good point.

I prefer to wait before casting any judgement. How does anybody actually know whether he has wisdom tooth pain or not? How about giving him the benefit of doubt before it's proved otherwise.

I'd suggest that those that say he's a baby, have never experienced severe tooth pain - I certainly have and can fully understand him not wanting to carry on. Toothache is the worst pain to endure, let alone concentrate on something.

He's struggling with handling pressure. The whole world seems to be commenting on the move to Nike which is extra pressure, on top of being world no1 and expected to win every tournament he enters. For me its not the clubs, its the weight of expectation.

Sure Rory will sort his head out be win many more majors.

On a course like that most h/c golfers on the forum would be happy being 7 over after 8 . We have to pay mega bucks to play a course like that.
But it does make me feel a little better seeing the world number 1, having my kind of day.

A wisdom tooth? Come on, I've had broken bones and still got a days work done! A player of his level should be able to suck it up and get the round done, regardless of performance, and then laugh it off afterwards like us normal folks do in the clubhouse. What sort of example is that to the young players around the world? 'having a poor front 9? Jack it in then, and then make up some poor excuse'

Disgrace

I was watching that and thought, wow, that must have been scripted by their lawyers. I think in addition to the advertising Sky's golf coverage knows that they need Rory, Nike and access to Nike players in the future. So they can't upset him or Nike in any way.

It's much like the way just about every major media outlet or newspaper takes all the utter nonsensical garbage and excuses football managers come out with as gospel, and are so fearful of questioning them on any of it.

I don't care how much tooth pain he's had you don't act like a petulant child and walk off. I've suffered massively with my wisdom teeth and awaiting surgery to have another removed as its impacted and broken the tooth next to it, but I manage to take pain killers and go to work so with his money could sure as hell afford to get it sorted quickly and with whatever shots needed.

Gets on my nerves commentators sitting on the fence and buying the guff as well. I've always said I'm no Rory fan as I feel he gets petulant and sulky when not playing well rather than just finding a way to score and this just imo to me at least proves my point. He has no B game, if he is off then he loses interest and doesn't have it in him to pull himself together get on with it and find a way to hang in. For that reason alone all those holding him up as the next tiger or the heir to the throne will never see someone like Rory achieve what Tiger has, Woods is also not the most pleasant but one thing he can do and the mark of the man as a champion golfer is get it round, do whats needed and then find a way to move on.

Sorry but i'm hoping he gets a roasting from the Press and I hope he is man enough to deal with it openly instead of finding an excuse for it.
