Rory walks off the course

We got a complete walloper here!

I like what Rors has done, shows he has balls and doesn't want to play like thecraw. Yes he'll be fined but who cares, its only a drop in the ocean for the wee man. I find it amusing. Been there done it, never regretted it.

Where is the like button please??

Don't know if he had a sore wisdom tooth or not but walking off shows a huge lack of wisdom.

Very poor show Rory.

(I hope he doesn't read this, he'll be mortified.)

Petulance of the highest order, imo a bloody baby.
Same as in the wind and rain a big baby.
It seems if it aint all plain sailing he wells up and sulks.
Toothache, someone should punch it out,and he needs to grow some balls.

The cbsblog article raised an interesting point:

Let's take a look at the last three years of Rory's PGA Tour career:

2010: Four missed cuts (two majors), two top 5s, one win.
2011: One missed cut, one top 5, one win.
2012: Three missed cuts, four top 5s, four wins.

It goes on to suggest he's been fairly streaky, which is a little bit unfair, although seems to have some merit (and I'm not a Rory hater).

I've only ever walked off the course once, and that's when I was having severe abdominal cramps and was more or less doubled up in pain. I've played (too soon) after surgery, with migraines and with Smiffy ( ;) ), and have completed each round!

The only thing I can say in his defense is that Wisdom tooth pain is nothing like a normal toothache. That said, for a pro to walk off is pretty poor show and not what I would expect from the World number 1.

Whilst I don't think he should have walked off part way through a round I think the initial reports have overblown what's happened.

From reading the first reports it sounded to me that he'd hit his last ball into the water, thrown his clubs down and walked off. Now more has come out it looks like he's picked his ball up, told his playing partners/officials and then stopped.

It doesn't matter how good he is, in his position he has a responsibility to his sponsors and the public. This sort of petulant behaviour is unforgivable at club level, and even worse from a player at his level.

Really unforgivable ? I play with a bloke who has done it 4/5 times in medals. I'd rather he walk in than be a misery guts. Re Rory, he's a young lad not a robot, he's obviously quite emotional. He's not going to consider the repercussions. Nike and the other sponsors give him a big chunk of cash because he's good at golf not because he's a role model. Tiger is testament to that.

In most "Whats In The Bag" features, there is a pack of medical supplies and if not there is plenty of opportunities for a doctor to come out with some pain killers. At the end of the day, it's an NR and we hate those. Tiger won a major on one leg. Shocking actions and I'm sure Nike are really pleased with the way their major signing has performed and acted since getting his big fat pay check

Ach it's not great but it happens. I've done it myself (sort of - I stopped playing but walked round to mark my partner's card). He's apologised and hopefully will sort out his swing before his next comp.

Btw I've had toothache so bad I ended up curled up in tears even though I was doped up on painkillers so I can accept that reason for stopping playing.

I think everyone is being a bit harsh.
He may well be in pain from a toothache, if he is then there isn't much he could of taken to alleviate the pain quickly & any one who has tried to play with a severe toothache or headache will know that it is impossible to concentrate on hitting a little white ball.
On the other hand, if he is telling porkies & his game has just gone to pot, then it will be obvious in the next event.
He will certainly be under massive pressure in his next event after his recent poor showings, which isn't going to help his nerves one little bit.

Just to show the contrast between some of the pros. Paula Creamer is currently -9 after being in a car crash a couple weeks back. Shoulder's still hurting apparently but wanted to come out for the fans etc (might even be defending).

That's without mentioning the woman a few weeks ago with the spider bite, or Tiger winning the open with a broken knee.

Agree with most comments, i'm not a fan of his, but in 3 weeks it will be forgotten, and i could'nt care less,

Cant blame Rors... He has been on the NHS dental waiting list for too long...

I am hoping to raise this on PM Question time..

I have a bit of sympathy with him, well as much sympathy as you can have with someone who is extremely talented, shacked up with a very attractive sports star and earning more in a week then most people earn in years (my heart bleeds blah blah blah). But he is under a lot of pressure and he is very young.

But it's just the corporate PR that stinks a bit. If he would have come off and fessed up, said he was very sorry and offered to double any fine and donate it to Comic Relief or some other charity then OK, you can understand. But it's the depressingly obvious way that Nike PR went into the box marked 'top excuse you can use if someone claims to be injured but they are not really'.

I have a mate who works in PR and the Wisdom Teeth excuse is an in joke in their world as a get out clause to cover up when someone wants a medical excuse that is very difficult to verify.

No it wont. He could very easily go from today, assuming he has not got toothache, to playing well in the next tournament as he blows hot and cold. When he's good he's very good, but when he's bad he's awful.
