Using my example, if a roll up/ swindle is spending nearly 10k more per year compared to open tee time booking.... hell yeah

What club in their right mind is gonna say nah?

Why should they will they only spend the money if they get pre booked tee time.

What if there are multiple groups spending lots being the bar ? Whah about groups that play before the bar is open

People pay membership to be able to play the course - everyone should get the same treatment regardless of how much alcohol they buy

You example is that you appear to believe that people who spend more money in the bar should get preferential treatment and priority

Why should they - unless there is a rule in the club , the more you spend in the bar the better privileges you get

Getting preffered tee times is preferential treatment

I know not all clubs work the same - and there will always be those clubs stuck in the past but at some point they will drag themselves into the future

Some people are really spending a lot of effort on trying to prove there is only one right answer to this. When, in fact, there is not. Completely depends on the club and membership.

At my old club, we decided to run roll ups every weekend day, in the morning, when there was no club competition. It worked wonders. So many new golfers joined, we're able to arrange consistent golf each weekend without worrying about being part of a group, and competition numbers flourished. And there were no members I knew off that were picky about who they played with. Everyone was rather sociable, and happy to play with anyone (although, if 3 or 4 really wanted to play together, we could just put them in same group anyway)

Some courses may not play roll ups at all at weekends, and they may be busy courses where it is fastest finger first. Fine if that is what your after. I'd never join a fastest finger first course unless there are loads of comps, and if I was joining anywhere as a solo golfer, more likely to join somewhere with weekend roll ups.

I usually tee off at my current course between 8.30-9.30 socially. If club said they'd sort out roll ups in that time frame, I'd have no objections. I'd still be golfing after all.

I totally understand that cultures vary at different clubs but, based on the swindles/roll ups at my previous and current clubs, it would put me off joining somewhere if the prime weekend morning slots were blocked out for them.
As a fully paid up member I expect the same opportunity as any other member to play golf when I choose and with whom. I don't want to have to join a club within the club in order to get a weekend morning tee time.

Unfortunately when someone is in the bubble of getting that privilege of being part of the blocked tee times they will be unaware of those around that will be missing out or moving onto other clubs where they have the same chance as others to play when they want

Even this past weekend a fourball booked the tee time in the middle of a swindle - no issues for anyone

It’s the same as the old ball in a shute and groups dominating a tee by turning up en mass

We had a vote after Covid in regards tee times and block booking etc - the demographic of the way the votes went was clear

We also have a lot of work going into ensure any new members are looked after

Why do seniors always get preferential treatment?

Yes and why not? They’ve been and continue to be the backbone of the Club for years and years.

Given service to the Club, bring in quite a bit of revenue to what would be quite a quiet time and if any member not in the Senior age group wanted to play during those times they’d be welcomed with open arms.

Because it is not inclusive and it is ageist!

Can just imagine the uproar if the oldies were told they couldn’t book a time at the weekend.

What Oldies at the weekend?

The tues/thurs bookings are for Seniors Comp, Cards go in when Ind comp.

If another member wishes to play during those times they will be accommodated, but why would they?

I am not being daft, thank you.

Children and women are different due to using different tees. Sadly at my club, virtually no juniors play in their comps.

I am a senior, but I don’t think it is right that they get their own reserved tee times and exclusive comps.

But, that is just my opinion.

I'm 50/50 for tomorrow playing as my mate might not make it. However the swindle put out a tee time and welcome to join if I'm free (hour later)

Nobody gets preferential tee times at our roll ups the tee times are reserved for anyone who wishes to play in the roll up. There is no name beside them.
