My 6 year old daughter has been having lessons and last week sat and watched some of the masters with me. She has a set of clubs that my lad used to use which have been cut down to size for her. I want to respray them Bubba Pink. Any idea if normal car paint would be ok especially on a graphite driver shaft or do I need something special ?

I'm sure paint wouldn't stick to a graphite shaft without some preparation. It's whether or not that preparation (sanding or an etch primer) will compromise the effectiveness of the shaft.

As well as adhesion problems, you would need an additive in the paint to make it flexible otherwise it will crack and come off.

If I were you I would just do the head I think trying to do the shaft could cause all sorts of problems

Have a chat with a proper car type painter. 2pack paint has a degree of flex in it, that's why it's used for painting plastics. Go down to your local car sprayer and ask them. You could just do the heads with halfords type spray, but the shafts will need a flexible paint...

young lad at my club has coloured shafts, bright blue and orange and his driver looks like pink camouflage, think he got them through AG( could be wrong) and are heat shrink wraps,he has matching grips and in his dads words they make him stand out!!!!!!!

Ok Pal.....
Here is the story.....Im a panel beater and the lads i work with are painters.......The process you need to go through is like this......

1. Get yourself some degreaser ( Halfords will stock it ) and get a grey scotchbrite scouring pad......Make sure that the scotch pad isnt too coarse!

2. Dip the pad in the degreaser and start rubbing anything that looks shiny on the club......Make sure that you get the shine down to a completely matt finish......

3. Use your degreaser and wash down the club to remove any dirt and grease from your hands...

4. Tape up anything that you dont want painted i.e Face and sole, grip, remove the grip if you like it'll make for a better finish.

5. Get yourself your Pink paint and also get whats called in our trade non sand aerosol spot primer......

6. Prime the shaft allowing 5 -10 minutes between coats. You can use a hairdryer set on hot to speed it up...Just make sure its not too close.
2 coats should do and once they are dry enough then you can use the aerosol Pink......

To get a proper finish make sure that whoever you get the Pink paint from that you tell them you want it as a finishing could with a satin finish if possible.....

Bear in mind that unless the give you a pink enamel based finish that the shaft and head may suffer from chips but it should hold up once you prepped it properly. ;)
