whats going on with the range? is it normal for people to go to the range with their mobiles on full volume and take a call whilst talking really loud, or swearing out loud when a bad shot is made? or my personal favourite.....the guy in the lane next to you decides he isn't quite finished and walks onto the field to get a few extra balls! guess where i've just come from. am i being a moaning git or is it right to expect a bit of consideration from fellow golfers :D

Depends on the range I think. We've a couple near me that seem full of idiots trying to smash it into the next county and only hitting the side walls. They are usually full of kids generally pratting about and bot really conducive to serious practice. I go to one a bit further away (20 minutes or so) which is tucked away. It is quite well marshalled and because of its location doesn't really attract idiots and so is really good for concentrating on your practice. Decent balls, decent mats and pros who usually give a quick fix to any problems. Perfect environment

We had idiots on Saturday trying to happy gilmore it and thought they were brilliant when they were hitting a rented driver 100 yards. They were also trying to hit a pw off a 3 inch tee and were hitting the roof in the range. My mate is the worst though, he thinks nothing of having ten minute conversations to his Mrs and sparking up a fag. Thats why I don't invite him to my course for a round.

Have seen it all ay my range from Happy Gilmour to groups of teens of which they have 2 clubs between six of them.

Want golf to be popular just not at my expense! :o :o :o

Now try and go very early or very late especially at the weekend.

More and more so now am spending my time at the short game area at the club i'm having lessons at - even went down for a put tonight between 9.30 and 9.55 and was still home by 9.58!

I'm split between two ranges. One is a good 15 minute drive from me but is a bit nicer. With a loyalty card, 80 balls costs £6 and the mats are decent. However, the area the range is in attracts a subtle blend of golf snobs who don't take kindly to sliced shots (because they're always intentional, just to irritate them) and idiots larking about.

The other is a 10 minute drive and is really tucked away. It sits behind a row of housing and you really wouldn't know it's there unless you went looking for it. It's perfectly marked, has a number of targets at different distances and is a bit cheaper. The mats have seen better days, but it's usually so quiet that I can set my poles up and be there for two hours without seeing anybody else.

That said, I was there last weekend and somebody bought a screaming child with them...

Have just found a nice little driving range near me, its called Oak Tree its not the biggest or I have to say the best, but its in a lovely setting, very quiet, only ever seen 4 other people there and its cheap as well £1 =25 balls.

Was down there this morning, on my own, nice and sunny so would hit a few, have a rest in the sun then take a few more.

I would have to say its a cracking little place to go and work on your swing in piece and quiet.
