Random Irritations

I once had 2 separate deliveries via DPD, on the same van..
Guy scanned the first and then we had to wait 3 minutes until he could scan the 2nd.
They have 3 minute slots between deliveries regardless of how far they have between them.
Think they get something like 80p a parcel 📦

It’s how Skoda want it to be , several companies have done phonetic rebranding recently

Hyundai is pronounced “heee un day”

IKEA is “ee kia “

Slab is now “slob”.
Sorry that last one might be a lie 😂

That's my irritation, its simply a brand name, they're not allowed to get all precious trying to get folks to change how we pronounced it for years

My question is why didn't they do this 40 years ago..?
Letting it go this long and suddenly saying Oh, and its pronounced.......is being a touch condescending.......

Surely they were saying the name themselves in their advertising, and consumers would've simply picked up the pronunciation from that? So they may well have changed how they were saying. A lot of these companies probably did Anglicise their names back in the day, but now we're in the age of 'cultural misappropriation' they've decided to go back to the correct pronunciations. 🤷🏻‍♂️ Most of them probably won't catch on. Ikea have been calling themselves 'ickAya' for a while now but English folk still call them 'eye-keer'. 😄

Due to the chemotherapy my wife’s veins are hard to find. So she had a port put in which is a method of accessing a vein easily and no hassle. The chemotherapy centre can use it no problem- they get bloods and do infusions.
But when you go outside of that, not a lot of the NHS departments are trained to use it .. which leads to hours of trying to find the vein ( and a fair degree of distress). It’s frustrating and I am thinking what can I do to help.. if anyone knows a way to raise particular funding for training so there is a nurse in every department that can use a port, I will try and organise a charity event or collection point. I have never done this before so I am open to advice.

Sssh koh dah. The Sssh and koh are closer together but I think this is a good starting point to get the gist.

(or google a Skoda advert as they make a big thing of it now at the end)
I drive a Skoda. I, and everyone I know calls them SKO-DUH, always have and always will.
The only times I ever hear it as SSSHKO-DAH is on their bloody irritating adverts.
Next thing they'll be saying they are ssshimply clever. Cut it out.

Edit: and another thing - I notice the badges on the back have now added the accents on the letters.
It's about as pretentious as rock bands adding umlauts to their names.

They always have because that is what we were told to call them for the last 40+ years. Now they want to change it to the pronunciation that they use in Czechia.

Now, you can ignore it and keep using the same sound but that is a bit bloody minded really. You are giving off full Yorkshireman vibes here 😄

When I bought my Octy back in ‘98, they were saying then that the homeland name was Sshhkoda. It’s just typical Englishman abroad we are best mentality to not want to pronounce a name how they pronounce it, just as I still hear people saying Holland.

To be fair, we followed what the adverts, and dealers, used as how to say it. That's on Skoda HQ in the UK or Europe, if they were promoting a different version.

You can then start to go down a real rabbit hole. Should we be saying Muenchen instead of Munich, Firenze instead of Florence etc?
