Random Irritations

To be fair, we followed what the adverts, and dealers, used as how to say it. That's on Skoda HQ in the UK or Europe, if they were promoting a different version.

You can then start to go down a real rabbit hole. Should we be saying Muenchen instead of Munich, Firenze instead of Florence etc?
If that is what the places want, then we should respect it. We have anglicised a lot of words, doesn't make it wrong for locals to want us to pronounce things correctly. See Türkiye as an example.

I'm going to Amsterdam tomorrow for a long weekend with my wife. Very much looking forward to it. I can't help being drawn to the stories about queues due to the new EES system though. I understand how it all works, I've been through it before outside of Europe, but the spectre of long queues and the danger of missing the flight back is already making me edgy. Going there isn't the issue. The queue may be slow but we will be there, there is not a deadline for the train to the centre. I've had one near miss previously due to inadequate passport control whilst returning to the UK, thank you Barcelona, and it sticks with you.

There is nothing I can do about it but I'm irritated that it is in the back of my mind already.

What’s the worse than can happen?
You miss the flight and get the next one.
Nobody is going to die, relax and enjoy your holiday.
It’s like going to the dentist, it’s never as bad as you think.

When is the next one though? What if 3/4 of the people due to get the plane are also in the queue, miss it and try to book the next one? How much spare capacity is there?

I'm sure you are right but I'm irritated that it is getting under my skin.

It depends on the airport. Based on a number of friends coming through passport control, if I was flying out I wouldn’t worry about going through Almeria or Murcia International but I don’t like the stories coming out of Alicante.

There seems to be more problems leaving than coming in.

Arriving doesn't really matter as you just get to your accomodation later than you hoped. It's annoying but not major. Leaving, the plane will only wait for so long.

Hopefully they will have got their act together by Sunday, when we are coming back.

Ah, remember the old days when air travel was exciting...........

You say that as if this is the only country/language that does this.🤣🤣

It's called "language" as we say à Londres... eh um London. How dare they say Pays de Galles not Wales, eh Cymru eh whaddyacallit?

I’m usually asleep before I get to the end of the runway. Noise cancelling headphones on, zzz’s out.

I have just returned from a nice wee break in the Algarve.

Took just under an hour from getting off the plane, through passport control and on our way.

Social media is full of horror stories about getting back out. However, yesterday we checked our case in, went through security and passport control all in the space of 15 minutes. The new EES systems were not in operation thankfully.

Unbelievable place. I’ve been there twice and seen many sights 👀. Yet never once made it to an actual historical cultural venue 😂
I’ve seen the other side. Went there one January about 20 years ago with my wife and another couple. Weather was awful and we spent far too long in a “brown cafe” aka beer bar on the first day.
After that we went to Anne Frank’s house, got there first thing in the morning. A very moving and memorable experience that I would recommend.
The Van Gogh museum is also very good as is a trip on a boat around the canals.

Been on a few stags there and it was certainly an eye opening experience.
But I also went with my wife and it was completely different, like @KenL said, Anne Frank's house was a sobering afternoon.
