Random Irritations

Assume that was at NH Ian! Always felt a bit vulnerable when i had to go down there and get a laptop replaced or sorted :LOL:

I didn't know (or had completely forgotten) you worked for that lot!🤣🤣 I didn't just mean there!

I left in 2008. I still play golf with a chap from Tech Support there. Lovely bloke, but always looks like he slept under a hedge!

I have calmed down now.
Will sit down tomorrow with them and have a chat.

Then put in place whatever procedure is needed depending on their attitude.

Means I got to go into the office though which is annoying as I am also working Thursday & Friday this week covering holidays.

Write the chat up in an email afterwards and send it to them “to confirm.” Ideally, if it’s not their first time, take someone with you. If it’s detailed and witnessed, and they carry on being stupid, you’ve already started the process.

If they’re half decent, it might just be the shock they need to get them back on track.

Not an irritation for us but the poor little lass next door, about 6 years old, who started a couple of weeks back with the winter virus that’s been going around. I’ve just heard her again, cough, cough, cough right from her boots. It’s heart breaking to hear her struggling.

Mrs H chats to her some mornings when she’s heading out to school with mum. Our Spanish isn’t quite good enough to grasp all of what she’s saying but she isn’t fazed by that. Cracking wee kid.

Someone not turning up for work this morning.
No phone call, no email.
I called them at 09.30 oh sorry I slept in I can start at 11.00
Meant to start at 08.00.
Told them not to bother.

Trying not to be too rash and telling them to find somewhere else to work but really want to.
This isn’t the 1st time it’s happened this year
I remember one of my staff turned up 3 hours late for a 4 hour shift. He was in 20 minutes and asked if he could go for his tea break. 🤡

Yes, I was in Credit Risk & more latterly Internal Audit, moving from NAC. Retired at 55 in 2019, luckily just before COVID changed everything!
Moved up North then, so don't see my old work colleagues much these days.

My reg plate (VRN) was pinged by a mobile ANPR camera for being illegal*. Had 21 days to remedy and send photo evidence to DVLA that it had been changed, or I would lose the VRN permanently. Re-offend and I will lose the plate.

All sorted now.

*it had punctuation (a dot), not solid black, and blue tints around the black - this is what I assumed, not told

You're in a face to face chat with someone and their phone rings. They immediately answer it, regardless, giving you a "just a minute" gesture or, worse turning away.
It's the equivalent of someone walking up, barging between you both and starting a conversation with one of you.

The above with bells on. Mrs H often gets her phone out to check it mid conversation. I’ve taken to walking away. She’ll even do it when we’re out with friends then try and pick up the conversation, usually getting it wrong. We have, er, spoken about it. I’ve even suggested she get a dummy’s guide to phone etiquette. Waste of time…

You're out for a jog. You see two people walking on the path ahead of you, in your direction. They take up the full width of the path, and you are next to a fairly busy road. You would think that they might be able to walk in single file for a few seconds, so that you can safely jog past them. But no, instead they continue to take up the full width of the pavement, ignore you and expect you to run onto the road, back to traffic. Especially irritating when there is actually a car coming up the road.

I do tend to shout at such cretins.

Similarly, if on a narrow pavement and I am approaching someone walking towards me, I really would like to think the person walking towards oncoming traffic would be the one to step into the road. Sadly, that rarely happens.

I will often simply stop walking and stay where I am - let them do the avoidance.

In our town centre there are many very narrow pavements where this is a problem - a risk to pedestrians with the traffic. But this is soon to change as pavements are being very significantly widened - reducing the width and in some cases the number of lanes for traffic.

But oh the moaning on the town's 'Rants' Faceache group...with all the moaning being on the impact the changes will have on traffic flow into and through town - choosing to put aside the huge improvements that will be afforded to shopper and visitor experience of - what is and despite the traffic - a lovely town centre. The moaners are utterly tedious - I do not understand what they think they are achieving or hope to achieve - because all their moaning is doing at the moment is painting a very negative picture of the town for prospective visitors and business.

All that said, however, I too am rather irritated that the contractor miscalculated, and has run out of, the paving slabs they are putting down and the consequent delay means that the current disruption will continue for longer than planned.
