Random Irritations

That's hardly a valid excuse. My dashboard doesn't light up in that way, and if you wait until you can't read it, that's WAY too late.
I can't remember the last time I drove a vehicle that didn't have 2 levels of dash illumination, a brighter level for daylight and a dimmed level for night time triggered by the lights being on.

Well to be fair my car is 9 years old. The dash lights come on when you switch on the lights. Then there's a rotary dial to adjust the dash lights brightness.

Remember rotary dials? You know, those controls on things like heater temperature and fan speed that actually operate in the ergonomically correct way? The ones that virtually no car manufacturer installs these days? Those were the days.

And some cars still have them ;)
My 8 yr old VW Transporter and 1 yr old Mazda CX5 both have them :)
In fact, every VW I have had has has dash manual dimming :)

You can insult me because I drive a BMW, but if you find it acceptable to drive without external lights, however you excuse it, you'll lose the debate.

Now, shall we move on now I've established my irritation is valid?

No one is excusing driving without any lights on just as no one es excusing making turns without putting your indicators on at a timely point of the proposed manourve.

BTW.. :) in case you missed the previous imoji :)

I understood it was tongue in cheek (it's emoji btw) and accept the repetitive jibe if owning a BMW. However, I posted my irritation and not too bothered if it doesn't irritate others, let alone debate it for half a dozen posts, reminiscing over the time someone owned a Mk1 Golf or whatever it was 🥱

No probs :)
Ive never had a Golf, of any mark....however I have had a Mk1 Polo. Mk2 Jetta, Vento, Skoda Octy and Mk1 Superb, VW T4, T5 and T6 and every one cyou could manually adjust the dash lighting.
Even my Mazda 3 and current CX5 can do it as well :)
The problem now as I see it, is that DRL's are too bright and having auto lights makes you forgetful of the lighting switch. This is especially prevalent when your vehicle has been into a garage and they have turned off the auto lights and you don't realise when you pick it up and drive away.

I never have my lights on auto. I prefer to have control myself. Sometimes dipped headlights need to be on before auto lights kick in. For instance, when driving in rural country roads where trees make it darker.
An oncoming car will see my dipped headlights in a split second before seeing my car.
I remember in the early seventies in Germany, if you need to have your windscreen wipers on then it was Law to have dipped headlights on.

It's always surprised me that we dont have the same laws over here.

Major roadworks in our town centre for another two months 🤷 mean quite long diversions for some through traffic…and, rather than just put up with the temporary inconvenience, some drivers think it’s ok to drive wrong way down a one way street to ‘shortcut’ the diversion…😡

I have a feeling that in my previous Skoda's if your wipers were on, dipped headlights automatically came on. Makes sense to me, and would be happy if this happened across all brands.

That really annoys me, why do they do that? So dangerous.
They turn them off so they don't get blinded by the lights as they work on the car. However, it should be automatic that they turn them back on when they have finished. Should be part of their routine.

I've been caught a few times by this, it is highly irritating.

Or maybe cars shouldn't have an auto lights option?
Or, if there is an auto lights feature, it should work properly.
My wife's previous car (Hyundai i30) had it. As the light faded during dusk, the lights came on WAY too late. But they would come on for a couple of seconds when going under a bridge on a sunny day. Go figure.

Had my first proper irreparable puncture in years a couple of months ago. The new run flat replacement cost about £250.
Health check during a safety recall yesterday identified a nail embedded in the new tyre. The price for the same tyre is now £300.
I hate run flats and not having a spare. Bring back full size spare tyres as standard.
Took the car to my local tyre place this morning to fit the new tyre I ordered through etyres.
Good on ’em - the punctured newish tyre that still has 7mm of tread was easily repairable, contradicting what the robbing BMW garage said.
Tyre repaired and new tyre fitted on the other side that was down to 3.5mm.
BMW garages continuing to enhance their reputation as money grabbing, customer alienating cheats.

Most seem to recommend not repairing runflats.
