But think about all the community stories and gossip both of you missed by not visiting barbershops and hairdressing shops! My mother was a hairdresser and knew nearly everything that was going on in our community of 7000.For more than 25 years I have been the only person to be cutting my wife's hair. Long straight hair - not too difficult - about an inch and a half off each time.
And for more than 30 years I've been cutting (OK electric clipping) my own hair.
I wonder how much money (and time) we have saved.
Try Fatface or White Stuff. Very nice, especially from the sale.M&S jeans, chino's etc
I used to walk in, grab my size, walk out.
Now I'm battling through slim fit, skinny fit, rigid fit, stretch fit, regular fit, loose fit![]()
All part of the ‘sitting on a bus looking at an aeroplane and then later sitting on an aeroplane looking at a bus’ ?Having to be at physical check in for a flight 8.5hrs before your flight time and at a totally different location to where you’re taking off from! Genuinely the most pointless and frustrating way to travel
To top it off the coffee shop shuts and hour before we had to be here and none of the vending machines work this is gonna be a long wait….

Sad fact is it’s not even that interesting because where we check in is an hours drive away from any planes or any form of airportAll part of the ‘sitting on a bus looking at an aeroplane and then later sitting on an aeroplane looking at a bus’ ?
It’s a pain many will never experience. Check in wait 8 hrs with zero food or drink available to get a bus to a terminal where the food and rink facilities are also shutI know the pain![]()
Could be worse, at least the transport fleet is more modern and (potentially) more reliable than my day when it was VC10s and Tristars- both types about 40 years old!Sad fact is it’s not even that interesting because where we check in is an hours drive away from any planes or any form of airport

8hrs after my original post we’re still waiting![]()
Worst journey was three days in the the back of Herc staging 4 Harriers out to Malaysia ….oh and the three days back, hitting CAT over Indian Ocean, rusty tufty types all shaken up from the 800 feet drop.Could be worse, at least the transport fleet is more modern and (potentially) more reliable than my day when it was VC10s and Tristars- both types about 40 years old!
Then I think my wife and I will call that, "Money and time well not spent."But think about all the community stories and gossip both of you missed by not visiting barbershops and hairdressing shops! My mother was a hairdresser and knew nearly everything that was going on in our community of 7000.
I remember the VC 10 flew on that from Germany to NI! Seats all faced the back of the plane rather than forward, the worst take off and landing I’ve ever had facing the wrong way.Could be worse, at least the transport fleet is more modern and (potentially) more reliable than my day when it was VC10s and Tristars- both types about 40 years old!
Loved the Herc, sit up the far up end, sleeping bag out and curl up in the corner to sleep whilst everyone else sits facing each other.Worst journey was three days in the the back of Herc staging 4 Harriers out to Malaysia ….oh and the three days back, hitting CAT over Indian Ocean, rusty tufty types all shaken up from the 800 feet drop.

Just like BA’s old business class seats then innit? Luxury.![]()
Not much Luxury in a VC10 or Tristar
It’s just a step up form flying in a chinnook
I've never had the pleasure, would love to go up in one.
Their noise is magnificent.
Apart from proper seats, windows you can look out of without breaking your neck, you don’t fly with the tail hatch open, you can’t see the working parts of the Aircraft and you don’t get battered by the smell of AVTUR yeah not much of a step upNot much Luxury in a VC10 or Tristar

I can assure you it’s quite a dull experience and the novelty quickly wears off. Sitting sideways staring at the person opposite you isn’t thrilling. You need to crane your neck backward to see out the windows . Unless you can get a seat in the tail hatch then it’s quite cool as you can see everything and you’re literally sitting hanging out the back of a helicopter.I've never had the pleasure, would love to go up in one.

Many years ago I often used to go skiing with Silver Ski, who chartered a Tristar. Not much Luxury in a VC10 or Tristar

I vividly remember how it rattled and shook on landing - the overhead luggage bins wobbled around and you were waiting for them to fall down.
