Random Irritations

You’re a bounder and a cad sir! Thou should be Burntest at the stake…

I was weaned on real ales in the mid 70’s, and I’ve never lost my taste for luke warm, flatish beers. I lived in the Lakes back then, Theakston’s and Hartley’s were my regular pints.

As I moved around the U.K. I’ve sought out the local beers. What I can say is there’s hardly a bad real ale if it and the lines it’s drawn through are well looked after. But go back to the mid 70’s and you’d find some awful mass produced rubbish.

I do enjoy a ‘Theakston’s since Scottish & Newcastle sold it back to one of the Theakston’s brothers. The other brother set up the Black Sheep brewery after they originally sold Theakston’s. I’ve got a special place in my heart for Theakston’s.

A few I like. Greene King, Abbott’s, Ruddles, London Pride, Spitfire, Hobgoblin, Timothy Taylor’s, Bateman’s, Woodforde’s. And there’s a whole load of micro breweries producing some stunning stuff.

The worst beer & lager I’ve had… Joseph Holt’s.
I’d rather drink my own urine than an Ale 🤮
Although they came about at a similar time, I think WhatsApp really took off and kind of usurped SnapChat. Snap still exists so I guess some people use it, but it seems pretty pointless to me.
It definitely has it been usurped. It’s massive with anyone under the age of 25. Literally the only thing my kids and their mates use to communicate on and most of the people I work with are are the same.

Just seems like a really stupid tool to use when WhatsApp exists. When I had it (over a decade ago) you could only send photos though, which would disappear after viewing. Guessing there must be more to it now.

Not really. There is like a kind of chat function but usually they’ll take a random picture of some crap and wrote their msg over it to chat 🤷🏼

I don’t get it. When they want to msg me I tell them use text or WhatsApp

Yeah, that sounds completely impractical when WhatsApp is a perfect messaging tool. Why bring in the need for a superfluous photograph to message someone? Baffled. 😂

Does Snapchat have the security and privacy features that WhatsApp does?

I'm late into work today, waiting for workmen. Get a phone call from a colleague, 3 windows on our unit has been smashed overnight. They have wire going through them so the structure has stayed in place but it's a mess and will cost to replace 🤬

This happens occasionally, always during a school holiday 🤬.

We have CCTV so I go to look at it. We have 4 cameras but the one pointing at that area wasn't recording last night 🤬. The other three were but that doesn't help.

Not a good start to the day.

Is it worth having the glass security filmed?
You can have it on vehicle glass and stopped the glass being put in

Training courses that are a week long but aren’t even half that in reality. A 5 day course with basically 4hrs worth of breaks a day is ridiculous. Condense the breaks and that’s a 3 day course at best and that’s really as long as it needs to be 😒

Bit like poorly controlled business meetings. Good ideas get diluted when 20 people must have an input. Then there’s the idiots who must have an opinion on everything, but they only reword the previous point. Or the “it’s a good idea but…” If it’s not a good idea just say so, don’t just dress it up.

Breathe 2,3,4 and relax. Jeez, I don’t miss big business meetings.

Isn't that every military course? Especially those provided by external contractors who must try to justify the course by making it a week long when in reality it could be done in 2-3 days.
Worst one I ever did was 5 days at Cosford about corrosion control - we physically went and watched paint dry as we treated some corrosion on aircraft down at the museum! Never treated any corrosion in the remaining 20 years I was in the RAF. :ROFLMAO:

You’re not wrong. This was a 5 day course that even the instructor couldn’t drag out so we’ve been knocked off for the week. So I’m having a lazy afternoon today and off to golf tomorrow 🤣

Memories of a training course that was so intensive we only took a short lunch break. Tea coffee and biscuits were laid out at the back of the room to help yourself to at any time. By the middle of the afternoon everybody was so hyper from all the caffeine that discussions turned in to arguments.

Trick or Treat.

Not Halloween - that’s great fun. But ToT. Where the householder has to give a gift under threat of having a ‘trick’ played on them. That’s the wrong way round, and in truth not a great lesson for our children.

Traditionally - at least in Scotland where Halloween was celebrated in a way it wasn’t in rUK, guising (for that is what it is, or was, called) on Halloween involved us doing a little turn - sing a song; recite a poem; tell some jokes etc - for the householder, and in return the householder gives a little gift and maybe a little bit of game-play (dooking for apples; toffee apple on a string etc).

No threat - no trick - just a nice little exchange. I’ll do something nice or fun that you enjoy, then you give me something nice or fun in return. That’s the way to do it 👍
