Random Irritations

Right. Any man who cannot open a beer bottle without an opener needs to give themselves a reality check!

So many things can be used to open a beer bottle!

Sucks about the lack of access to the cabinets though!

I play golf with a good deal of south African gents (I use the term loosely ;) ) and to a man none use bottle opener for post round beers. Tables, lighters, cutlery, another unopened bottle etc etc etc
I assumed you fellas were taught this in school when we had woodwork or some such

Anyone who knows about Dumfries House will tell you what a fantastic transformation has taken place since King Charles !!! helped rescue it about 20 years ago.
It has become so popular that they have had to introduce a £5 per car parking charge but it is free on permit for all residents within a 20 mile radius.
The amount of abusive comments re this really bugs me. The facility is free use [other than a charge for House tours about £10]
Someone moaned that she would not be able to walk her dog there any more. Considering she has to drive a round trip of over 40 miles to do that perhaps she should consider what her petrol costs are.

Gratitude for much of what we have is something many folks miss...not appreciating or accepting the difference between an entitlement and a privilege.

...
She has ordered new locks that come with the magnet on prime so will be here today.
Guarantee 20 minutes after it turns up will find the original magnet 😂
OK, I'm not familiar with these magnetic locks you speak of, but have to ask:
Do they need a special magnet to open? If so, what weird aspect of physics means that any old magnet won't do?

Just any magnet but you get 1 (I think) with the pack.
We only used it as had kids visiting.
We put the magnet on the fridge so it was easy to grab it and unlock any of the drawers until the magnet was not on the fridge.

Global warming.

May & June were the hottest on record. July was up there but a few very short showers spoilt it. August is already seen the highest temps on record.

Think I got through close on 6 litres of fluid yesterday, not all of it ‘healthy.’ About the same today, inc. a few isotonics.

Remember being at a party once, 4 or 5 bloke's stood round plus the partner of one of the guys. All looking round for a bottle opener. After no luck said girl says "pass it here" grabs bottle puts it to her mouth and rips top off no problem. Cue 4 or 5 bloke's putting a protective hand on their private parts!

Anything firm can be used. A little leverage and voila! Nothing will stop a South African from drinking a beer especially not the bottle top!

And those gents you speak of…. Tell them howzit

Thinking about past jobs and realised that (almost) every company I’ve worked for in 40+years… is no longer trading !
My FiL was the original owner of the company I run now, he's been retired for about 20yrs. He still comes in every so often, plonks himself down and then starts to reminisce about past competitors and customers. It's a similar situation, so many are gone. Even the ones who were a licence to print money, bust.

It's an interesting analysis as to why but still brutal.

The concept of a job for life at one company in the private sector really is hanging by a thread now, a very fine thread.
