Random Irritations

A firm of solicitors wrote to me on behalf of Sainsburys alleging I drove off without paying for petrol. I replied that they were referring to an incident 35 days previous (now 62 days) of which I have no recollection. I asked for evidence assuring them I'd pay at once if provided.
I received no reply but later got a letter identical to the first. I wrote to them again repeating my request for proof.
Again ignored.
The third letter arrived yesterday and, of course, the tone has changed.
Initially it was "We understand that customers sometimes inadvertently drive off....."
Now its ramped up to "Failure to pay may support the fact it was your dishonest intention never to pay."
Then they go on to mention legal proceedings and police (the Theft Act 1978) if I dont pay in full in 7 days, plus their "collection fee".
My wife is bricking herself, I'm doing my mule impression.
No wonder people panic and cave in.
This firm has a 1* rating on Trustpilot.

My dad got one a few years ago, someone had cloned his plates.

Two requests for proof ignored.
Sainsburys forecourt staff say " We wouldnt have a clue, its just a computer alert to the company that run the pumps."
Just noticed that the "7 days from the date of this letter" ultimatum is dated 6th June, delivered 11th June.

Why not go to the Police with it. You could easily say it is a scam going on, and you feel threatened and blackmailed.

Vitality Health putting out an advert about improving your health and well-being ....... to backing music of Enola Gay by OMD. Which of course is about 80,000 being killed in a nuclear explosion.

I'd be writing back saying, "that as you have twice failed to comply with my request for proof that it was my car, I can only assume this is an error or another individual using false plates and I now consider the matter closed."

I would also be speaking to local police to report the possibility of someone using your reg number.

Out of interest, you didn't say if they mentioned which site the incident took place, and if it's one you use!

Out of interest, Ian, it is my local Sainsbury that I always use. My issue is that, initially, their charge was for an "offence" 30+ days previous which has now become 60+ days. In my initial reply I stated I would happily pay given proof (given that Sainsburys can't provide proof).
They are choosing to ignore my genuine "Prove it please" request and simply ramping up the intimadatory threats.
Tomorrow I engage Sainsburys CEO as this dubious legal firm are their agents.
The Police won't even sniff at this but thanks for the suggestions peeps.

Yeah, I did wonder if some spotty advertising graduate hadn’t done any research and just thought “that sounds like a good upbeat tune”. Incongruous AF.

We have a tough decision ahead and to be honest I have tried to minimise the emotions on it. There is no point crying over unconfirmed spilt milk.
CA125 numbers have risen, but that needs a CT scan to confirm tumour activity or growth.
There is a trial available which could be done. But the documents and status are hard to ascertain.
They lose you in the language and that means you have to ask questions- simple ones! Like has this been physically tested on humans or is it just computer simulations? Or how did the mice tell you they had aches and pains or lost saliva ?
I understand that we all have industry document formats - but if you are sharing outside of the industry you have to use a language that is understandable.

Surely you can just work out if you did it or not ? I.e when did you last fill up Vs card receipts. I've driven off without paying once and realised the next day . It's surprisingly easy to do.

My son gets the jab now, lasts around 2 months, but it works instantaneously for him. I've had a bad week, cotton wool head, and I'm thinking of giving one a go. Have you tried them?
I haven't, or even really considered it. Maybe I should.
I'm Mr Allergy. I take Claritin all year round - 1/2 tablet October-March. At the height of it, like now, I make it through the day by splitting the dose 1/2 in the morning, 1/2 in the evening and using sodium cromoglicate eye drops a few times.
The only real relief I get is by going into work in London, which is just replacing one irritation with another.

Oracle being utter toss as usual. Asked to change my password, I do though, now the verification refuses to work so I can't get in any of our apps and can't do anything. Cheers.
