Random Irritations

For me, there is no irrefutable proof that killing people rather than imprisoning them is an advancement in human understanding or reduces the occurrences of violent murders.

Thankfully, the laws and prison sentences in the UK are pretty much in tune with my views.

And I have spent many hours of many days in the company of convicted murderers. Just about all of them were severely mentally disturbed or psychopaths.

You can do it all digitally.

I did my passport completely via my phone. Picture taken as a selfie on my phone and used. Paid for via my credit card

When my wife did her licence they used her passport photo and she paid the fee via her credit card

They may offer it as payment but definitely not a requirement.
trouble is (from memory) I do not have any supporting documents such as a passport with a photo.

I agree, not a fan of capital punishment at all, I always look at the countries that do it and think “I’m glad we are not in that group” but every now and then a case comes along like this one, and I think a Viking Blood Eagle would be justified.

i don't fancy his chances of surviving very long in prison........lots of cases of such prisoners being attacked in prisons - he will be a definite target.

We can but hope. A bit of natural justice would cheer the whole nation up!

It happened locally a few weeks ago… nobody grieved for the dead man.

So there’s a discussion re death penalty or not for convicted murderers. This has been done to “ death”. Pardon the pun. On here.
If you don’t want the death penalty, I understand that arguement. But if that is someone’s thoughts and beliefs, that the current non deterrents of a custodial sentence means that we have to accept that children will be murdered again in the future. That is something you have to accept. Since the days of the moors murders ( and before that), Soham murders, Sara Shariff, and lately the Southport murders etc etc. There is no deterrent to stop anyone picking up a cricket bat and murdering a child. I for one cannot accept that is acceptable.

Bob got it right decades ago…

The silicon chip inside her head
Gets switched to overload
And nobody's gonna go to school today
She's gonna make them stay at home

And daddy doesn't understand it
He always said she was good as gold
And he can see no reasons
'Cause there are no reasons
What reason do you need to be shown?

I don’t like Mondays

When the silicon chip is switched to overload logical thinking goes out the window…and no deterrence will make any difference. Society can at the very least try to retain its humanity in the face of horrendous acts of brutality. At times that can be a lot to ask of us, but maintain it we can…if we so choose, and so choose we must.

Lidl putting ready salted snacks in a light blue bag. Took a while to figure out why there was so little salt and vinegar in my salt and vinegar snack.

The death penalty is not a deterrent and the suggestion that by being against we are somehow to blame for these crimes is, well Im lost for words to be honest.

Death penalty is no deterrent to murder Tash.

The death penalty doesn’t act as a deterrent

Right then, folks. A reminder time. Not that one should be needed, as you’ve all been around long enough, but here goes.

You will all be aware that well over a year ago GM appended their forum guidelines to the OOB sub-forum. They are not moderator rules, but those of GM, and they set out how they would like those contributing to these pages to conduct themselves. The rules, and any appendices to them, are very clear about the following;

1. No politics.

2. No public criticism or discussion regarding moderation.

With regard to politics, it’s really very simple. Steer well clear. Any post either seen by a moderator, or reported via the report function, which is either overtly political or posted with an intent to provoke political debate will be deleted.

A post on another thread was deleted because it included a link to a YouTube video which detailed how a UK political party intended to help us manage our financial affairs. It made direct reference to that party’s election manifesto. The moderation team use their own judgement on these matters, and the post was viewed to be political.

What has followed here has been a debate regarding not only that, but how the moderators apply the rules. The debate included observations regarding moderation confirmation bias, and how we allow some posts to remain, whilst deleting others. Sorry, folks, but moderation decisions are not up for public discussion. It’s that simple. Again, not our rules, but those of GM.

It also seems appropriate to remind you all that the moderators do not view every thread, never mind every post, so if a post which appears to breach guidelines remains available to view that does not necessarily mean the mods agree with it, nor is it evidence of confirmation bias. It might just be that the post in question has not been seen. If you have concerns relating to a post, report it. Please do not assume the post will be seen.

So there you have it. A number of posts have been removed in order to tidy the recent exchanges up. If any of you still feel compelled to engage in political discussion there are places you can go in order to do so. Just not here, please.

Thanks.

I could have written that 😬👍

First and foremost, who suggested because you are against the death penalty “ we are somehow to blame”. No one. What I said is that if we carry on as we are you ( and by that i mean we, us everyone not you because I wasn’t talking to anyone in particular) have to accept that it will happen again. Why because nothing has changed with the penalty of murdering of children. Furthermore, you being lost for words. Well there is a first for everything.
