There are lots of holiday homes up here that use keypads for entry. So much easier for all than having to give and collect a physical key. No key to lose, locks to be changed. Just change the code whenever you want. I've used them at places abroad without issue as well.

If they were weak we would be hearing about it, multiple burglaries etc. The press would lovely story like that. But we don't..........

People don't have to switch to them, keep keys if you want to

Cash isn't safer. It's one of the most unsafe things. If you have your wallet taken and all the cards go. Plus say £100 cash

Anything spent on the cards can possibly be got back. Cash is gone ... So how is that safe?

Cards can be blocked cash can't

My cash stays in my front trouser pocket, I've never had it lifted.
I don't carry a wallet, I have no real need.

As I found out, it's not as simple as that! How do you ensure you can buy another phone or get to an old one? Carry sufficient cash or a card? carry your spare phone everywhere? Technology CAN be beneficial, but a serious amount of 'What if' contingency planning is likely reqd to avoid occasional SNAFUs.

Surely you have the cards still at home in your wallet no? I mean I go on holiday soon, I'll take Google pay for 90% things and my travel credit card just incase they don't accept it

But normally I won't have my card with me.

Can always install a key safe at your house to get in.. then access your cards your not carrying ..

There's so many ways to do without things now...

The what if you lose your phone is same as what if you lose your card

Do you not have insurance? I should have a replacement worst case in a couple days . In the mean time I still have a wallet in the house .. which with that lock if I had that I'd just finger print myself in ...

The phone is becoming the wallet and if your wallets stolen its more of a pain tbh

Exactly. And the fact that banks and such are accepting them as safe tech .. I mean Google pay contact limit is limitless now isn't it? Because it's been deemed that secure

Where as your card contact limit is £100

Only place Google pay is limited is where shops place a physical limit on it

Not ideal, nothing is perfect. Let's face it, people have been picking locks ever since locks were introduced.

Don't forget also that if you lose your keys you change the locks , you lose your phone? You remotely wipe it so if you did use the smart lock you wouldnt have to change the lock whilst the insurance covers the phone

That said I still use keys, we have far too many people with keys that need access to allow me to change it.

What is it they say.. to make your house less likely to be broken into make it slightly harder to break in than next door ...

Sorry next door .. the CCTV, ring cameras and fence spikes put them off ours. Unless they build a moat with crocodiles soon ofc

I could still pay for things using my watch.

I can lock my phone using someone else’s phone until it’s either found or confirmed stolen, then I would lock it permanently.

I most instances if I really needed to I can get a new phone and have it up and running in less than 24 hours.

I’ve got a work phone I could use in the meantime if I was at home. And I also have my cards if needed.

I’m in Italy currently. The wife brought €300 in cash for some reason. €250 is still in the safe with my bank card. We’ve use €40 of it as the kids were paying for stuff in a gift shop.

If you lost your wallet with cards and cash in. How long would it take you to get a new card and replace the cash?

More hassle and dependencies involved. Again, not knocking the tech, just pointing out that it's not the be-all and end-all.

Not only does some modern smart tech require effort to operate, sometimes it's a distinct step backwards.

Prime example: My wife has a Fitbit, and it's also her watch.
When we go abroad on holiday, it's impossible to change the time on the watch unless she has an internet connection available on her phone

But a fit bit is not a bit of tech that is a. Vital and b. Overly needed on a holiday

I mean I won't be taking my laptop. Tablet or Garmin with me abroad but they are 3 of my most used techs at home

Earlier in the year we had a long weekend in krakow. That was 100% cashless.

It seems to be 1.2 a night for 4 star over 16 only so should be about 34

Have you tested the wipe - then recover function? Remote lock is fine, but surely it auto-locks after 30 secs or so of inactivity anyway, Though better safe than sorry. Another contingency issue is - can you be sure you have access to perform the wipe or lock function and how safe is ihe process to do so - on a 'foreign' device.
