Random Irritations

I had a company leased BMW 520 that needed a self levelling component, BMW were transitioning between two major suppliers and the car was off the road for 7 months. BMW paid for a 530 from Enterprise for the full 7 months. They were in so much spares procurement issues at the time ( 2012 ish) that they started issuing new cars on loan instead of using Enterprise. It must’ve cost them a lot of money for the mismanagement of the supply chain.

What's the thinking behind these two options? Why these, why not others?

I'm sensing a new thread may be required where the forum decides your new car, not you or your wife 🤣
Having to go down the PCP finance route as we can't afford to shell out another lump of money on a second hand car only for it to die in 3 years like the last one. Jaecoo and MG have decent deals on where if we can get a 4k deposit together we'll then just be paying a little over £300 a month.

Jaecoo 7 gets some terrible reviews

We have seen all the reviews, most of them moan about the driver assist warnings, but we have done a test drive and they can be turned off pretty simply. Also the reviews mostly seem to be on the hybrid versions, whereas we test drove the hybrid and the petrol, and wife said the petrol was actually a lot better.

I would avoid MG like the plague, they aren’t the once well built British car that they were. We have a fleet of them used as pool cars at work, build quality is terrible, driving comfort and position leaves you feeling irritated and the ICE quality is awful and often has issues.

Can’t comment on the Jaecoo as never been in one, but the Tiguan is VW superb build quality and good aftercare. However I would also choose the SEAT Taracco, well built as it’s also under the VW umbrella, near on exact same design as its is sister company car (VW Tiguan) and you will get a higher spec for less money. Aftercare also superb, we had its slightly smaller brother the Ateca FR absolutely loved it.

Son has just told us his girlfriend is now joining us tomorrow for our Xmas day.
No problem apart from she is vegan so now got to go to shop again to get her some food.
Asked him what to get and his reply was I don’t know just some leaves.
Any vegans here with any advice?

To quote the Royle Family - how about wafer thin ham?

When you're listening to best of the 80's complilation and you end up 'playing' dead or alive
We're all square at 4-4 as it stands

Le Bon nudged the 'living' ahead but in absolute irony the dead or alive lead singer levels the score before Holly Johnson wins the tie break!

OK I admit not the most sensitive of Xmas games but there you go, I don't have Scruples

Sorry as a life long confirmed carnivore it’s hard to comment but a self made 5 bean salad and vegan wrap with a Greggs (could be other makes available) vegan sausage roll will surely meet the brief

I second the comment about MG. Can’t really comment on the reliability aspect, although anecdotally I hear they are dreadful, but the build quality is absolutely awful. Cheap plastic wherever you look, they are not that far removed from the Dacia range.

As regards the Taracco, my only observation would be comfort, or lack of it. Whilst I have found the cars themselves nice enough, I must say the seats themselves are probably the most uncomfortable I have ever come across. I would not want to undertake a long journey in one.

😀 I swapped from a Volvo V90 to a Taracco and its the other way round for me. 90 mins max for me driving in the V90 but could happily do 3 hrs, bladder permitting 😅, in the Taracco.

What I do.
Some really fancy stuffing mix and some vegetable gravy granules. Everyone else can share in this as well.
Then its just roast spuds (not coated in duck fat of course) parsnips, carrots, sprouts etc.
The one non-meat eater is happy with this. No dairy products for main nosebag is easy.
I have never seen this as a "problem" to be dealt with.
But one other - who refuses to eat sprouts - I find very irritating.

You've just had a car die on you, so can understand the lure of long warranty.
Assume it is mainly for moving child parafanalia (& golf clubs 🙂) around, so 'driving experience' isn't top of the list.
Probably not a lot in it. A bit like golf clubs, which one seems to suit your needs better. Easiest dealership to travel to. That sort of thing.

£4k is not a bad deposit in the second hand market. I’d be surprised if you couldn’t get similar monthly payments on many other cars in the price range you’ve mentioned. However, accept you may want ‘new’ after what happened to previous car. Although many manufacturers offer 7-8 warranties and multi-year service plans that are transferable on change of ownership.

If you are going new it’s worth having a look at some manufacturers like Honda. They have lots of deals on where they stump up a deposit contribution. If it didn’t have to be a SUV, I can recommend a Civic Hybrid which could fit in your budget - even when adding a 5 year service plan and other add ons. It’s won lots of awards and so recognised as a good and reliable car. Mine does 61 miles to the gallon driving normally, has lots of driver aids as standard, fits my golf clubs in the boot and is relatively quick/nice to drive.

Or it's Spanish cousin the Seat Taracco
When I bought my Seat Leon. The bottom line was it was all German/ VW engineering. Same parts as a VW, Audi, Skoda but not styled by people who play with rubic cubes and protractors. It had solid German engineering and stylish interior with extra gadgets. 👍

The irritation is not with the vegan it’s with my son for not telling us she was coming (she was originally coming on the 1st).

Everyone has had enough of Turkey so doing a Gammon with a few picky bits.

My wife has just messaged her and apparently she would like a courgette pasta thing she has had previously

I'm pretty sure the vegan will have enough room in their car to bring said pasta dish

I don't drink beer, just cider, when I visit someone who drinks beer i bring my own cider, whats the diff?

This is actually a good post in the sense I can really relate to it. I was seriously looking at another Seat as the Leon Fr which I wrote off was so good. I was persuaded to move away from the Seat and choose a CX5 which I fancied a few years back. Lo and behold a year later and lord knows how I came across a Lexus. I never gave them a thought as I thought the premium brand was out of My budget. The Honda is far superior to the MG and the other car and if I was Orikoru I would be looking at other cars and doing the numbers on deposit plus loan v deposit V PCP.
My niggling thought re the MG and Jaecoo, is there cheap for a reason. ☹️

We are providing the food and drink.
We have asked everyone what they would like think it’s only fair to do the same.

I just wish the idiot had thought to tell us sooner.
Their room is full of presents at the moment which I’ll have to move later so they got somewhere to sleep tonight, he was meant to come back tomorrow morning.

Anyway off to Tesco to buy a couple of Courgettes 😂😂
