Random Irritations

Phone call this morning at 02.00 youngest daughter out with 3 friends can’t get home from a club as no cabs will take them as one of them keeps throwing up.

So I’m up towels on back seat drive 30 minutes to pick them up get to where I think they want picking up from no sign, daughter not answering phone.
Eventually get a call back they have walked somewhere else not sure where but they going to walk back to arranged pick up point.
1 hour later we meet up.
Drop 3 friends off at their houses bring daughter back home.
Throw said towels in bin (as full of sick).
Now wide awake and fighting the temptation to throw a bucket of water over daughter to see how she likes 2 hours sleep
Get your daughter to put the "what 3 words" app on her phone. Really useful in situations where you dont know, or cant describe, exactly where you are.

Great work. When my kids are old enough I hope they don't hesitate to call me for a lift rather putting themselves in a dangerous situation.

100% agree but the bit about them then walking off from the meeting point and then not answering their phones is classic teenagers. I remember getting a “call-out” to pick my youngest up at Romford station after midnight. No problem, it’s a horrible area, I’m on my way. Got there about 20 minutes later, no sign of him, calls not answered. About 10 minutes later he texts me, he is at home. One of his mates Dads dropped him off!

I think they had tried to walk with their friend to help her feel better and got a bit lost. To be fair they were not far away but four girls in high heels with a few drinks inside them are never going to win the 100 metres 😂

My random irritation was the 2 hours sleep rather than her calling me.
All the kids know they can call anytime and apparently I’m now the cool dad among her friends.
Although when I said they should pay me the same as a taxi that got laughed off and the car now smells of sick.
I’m not totally stupid though, I did take the wife’s car 😂

It’s not just teenagers, I went out with work colleagues for drinks to celebrate my upcoming marriage, on the train home I called my Dad to pick me up, when he arrived he called to find out where I was, which at home as I’d got a taxi, I had no recollection of any of it.

I was 32 at the time, public apology made a few days later at my wedding as part of my speech.

I've got it all to come, they're definitely wired differently aren't they.

Of course we must rescue our kids when they get into tricky situations. I remember doing it for my daughter back when she was a teenager.

But they need to learn from the experience. Just rescuing them doesn't achieve that.
Your mistake was binning the sick-laden towels. You should have insisted that your daughter clean them up as a penance.

To be fair she is 21 and her friends are all nice. I don’t think she was in danger as such.
And it was her friend who was sick not her so might have been a touch harsh getting her to do it. I done it once I parked the car and took 30 seconds.
I get the point but it’s not a regular occurrence just a one off I think.

Well, after my post in Things That Gladden The Heart, as predicted I woke up this morning stiff as a board, especially across the top of my thighs. Still, as they say, no pain no gain.
Looking forward to next week's session. (y)
