Random Irritations

true... but he wants to shelves and cabinets as his side hustle on weekends for some extra money. I am assuming site work is a bit slow because he turned up on a weekday. He needs the money as he is off on holidays.
So if he into that, i was hoping he could a bit better on the thinking aspect of it.

As my architect describes tradesmen.... They are paid to do, not to think
Agree with your first section, if he is hoping to do more intricate work then maybe he should try a bit harder.

But vehemently disagree with your last point. A good tradesman should notice when the design isn't quite right and suggest a better way to do it. A lot of people who design things have no idea how to build them so usually come up with totally inappropriate designs that are impossible to actually make.

on the second point... 100% agree.. As an engineer, i could not agree more. But he got it wrong... after spending half a day building, he realised the error. it is not the end of the world, but you really wish that a young fella like him would take a step back and think thru.

We did a big extension. Most of the trades turn up, do thier bit and disappear to the next one. There are some who insist that all the screw head align. Some of the decorators like our kitchen painter were more OCD than I can be. But among the other trades the general attitude is to just finish and go. I made a lot of teas and I spoke to most of them. One of the roofers was different. He wants to become an architect technician, so was training for it.

So...a few weeks ago I noticed a load of Hazelnuts growing on a tree at the back of our 15th tee. not knowing much about the foraging of Hazelnuts I did a bit of research into when they ripen...seemingly September/October is when they are ripe but one can pick them earlier than that and store them in a dark place to allow them to ripen

Such advice also came with the instruction that one should harvest sustainably and make sure nuts were left for the animals...no doubt for their winter provisions....not a problem...I can do that and the tree was positively loaded with the things.

Anyway...i disappear off to Scotland for effectively two weeks. On my return i played last Friday and was pleased to see the potential harvest growing nicely. Played yesterday, checked on the tree, and it seems the damned squirrels have not got the message about harvesting sustainably....the tree was utterly devoid of Hazelnuts!!!

Do they not realise that Christmas will not be the same for me, without Hazelnuts?

random fact..

Turkey is world's largest producer of hazelnut
Ferrero Rocher uses about 25% of the world's hazelnut (the remaining 75% by squirrels)
Allegedly Ferrero takes over 80% of Turkish Hazelnut production

Another random fact.

Brazil nuts are almost impossible to cultivate, so most are harvested from natural trees in the Amazon rainforest.

Nuts are the food of squirrels and monkeys. NOT humans;)

Royal Mail!!
I work away during the week and Mrs Morningstar works 7-3pm. So when I ordered an item online I paid quite a bit extra for a specific time slot on delivery between 4-6pm to make sure someone is there to sign for it. Get notification of missed delivery at 9am!!

Tried to login into my Royal mail app which wouldn’t allow me arrange redelivery as it was specific time slot and according to the app they hadn’t even attempted to deliver it despite me having the email proof from the app!!

Spent 74mins!!! On hold to RM only to be told they tried to deliver early as that the specific paid for time slot is only a guideline and can only arrange redelivery at my specific time when they’ve failed to deliver the item twice!!! I can’t select to deliver to a safe spot as it’s special signed for delivery!

Eventually after much back and forth with different people did I get a sensible human who said they can arrange for delivery to the Post Office in our village for my wife to collect. In total 93 mins on the phone!!!

Brings back a memory. When I moved in the neighbour at the rear had a tree growing next to the fence. A couple of years later I was getting annoyed because I thought it was send up shoots from it's roots growing through my lawn through my took me another couple of years to realise it was the squirrels burying the nuts in the lawn and not digging them up.

You’re telling me! Even when you try to call them you have to go through the website and go down a rabbit of clicks and FAQs asking did this help!

It’s getting worse and worse trying to get decent service in general these days!
Don’t get me started on Virgin media, honestly think you need to take a test to prove you’re a complete idiot to work for them.
