Random Irritations

Wife has gone into her office today (a rare occurrence) while I'm working from home. She's inadvertently nicked my USB receiver that was plugged into her laptop, so now I have no mouse or keyboard to use today. Cheers love.

HMRC again. It looks like the tax is finally sorted for the wife's new job. Fingers crossed

However they still (incorrectly) believe my wife owes over £1000 in tax for one year (a year she didn't earn enough to pay tax)

Have disputed this countless times (even tho can't get through to them)

Nice debt collection letter arrived today

Do kindly take a run and jump

Tradesmen who want to charge £75 to come a price up a job.

Too bad. One of the two others who are not charging will be doing the work.

We needed some work done on our chimney, and one fella was asking £250 to erect scaffolding to take a look, just so he could give us an estimate.

I asked him why he couldn’t go up a ladder like the guy who had come round earlier the same day.

Cheerio, 🤠

More evidence, not that it's needed, that the road system in my town is gash......
1 crash that closed a road half a mile from the south west side has completely jammed up the whole town.
The Boy was due to have a haircut after work..a 3 mile drive across town...
Took him nearly an hour and then another 40 minutes to get home...
So glad I'm not out on the road much anymore...

Being a tradesperson, I so love t when people ask why I charge a call out....simple reply is "Does your husband work for free?"
I have a good friend whos a builder, and the amount of people who are just kicking tyres when it comes to quotes is driving him away from bothering.
Perhaps te charge is to be sure only serious enquiries are carried out.

So basically they could make a living just by giving quotes?

Honestly I’ve never heard of this before 😂

Sorry but I personally wouldn’t entertain anyone expecting to be paid just to give me a quote.
Give me a reasonable quote & get the job 🤷‍♂️

Do you deduct the call out charge if you get the job?
Or just add that onto to bill?

I dislike air travel in general, but especially the airports themselves.

On Saturday we flew back from Paphos and the passengers were treated with even more contempt than usual.

We were at the gate and called for boarding. That took us out of the air-conditionded departure lounge and into what can only be described as some sort of industrial scale gazebo with no seating and left to stand in the Cyprus heat. At least it had some kind of canvas roof to give us some shade.
At this point, our plane hadn't even arrived at the airport. We were there for about an hour before the the plane was ready to board.
There were families with young kids, who I have to say were remarkably well behaved considering what they were being put through.

I don't know if it's the airport or the airline - Easyjet in this case - that makes these decisions. (I suspect it's the airport).
But whoever is responsible seems to have absolutely no consideration for their customers.
Agree entirely with your comments. EasyJet are having a rough time at present. There is a website “EasyJet Complaints on Facebook
. Some of the stories on there are unbelievable.

EasyJet blame STC for everything. Never their fault

Just an off the cuff thought, Devil’s Advocate sort of thing. Those that don’t get the job end up covering their costs by charging customers who have taken them on. If I take him on for a job why should I cover the costs for him to travel to you to price up a job? Imagine him pricing up 5 jobs a week… 5hrs + travel time lost earnings?

I realise it goes against custom and practice but I can understand why it might end up happening.

Arriving at the dentist in plenty of time for your appointment and, despite being the very first patient of the day, you find they are still running fifteen minutes late.

Baffling.

Had this myself before Xmas. First appointment.. booked a 45 min one to do the 3 fillings (I thought) he started 10 mins late .. and then only got one day "run out time" , yet the appointment finished 20 mins early?

The tradies charging for quotes and the not turning up is linked along with the majority of the decent ones having full diaries, you have to be very careful choosing a tradesman these days, the majority of good ones pick and choice their jobs and customers, many choosing to only work for people they have worked for before or on recommendation, there are a lot of unscrupulous people about and the relationship works both ways, and tradespeople have to limit the risk of being ripped off also, they refer to a charge for quotations to put the customer off, a polite way of saying they donKt want the job, same as when they don’t turn up, that has been my experience anyway.

This 100% - really annoying that it takes you 10 minutes to peel it all off because it rips into a million pieces when you try & peel it off initially
Those poxy microwaveable foods that say 'peel back film lid, stir, and recover'. Picture me trying to 'recover' it by carefully placing the many tiny segments of plastic back on the top.
