quitting smoking!

I was a professional giver upper just like I am a professional dieter. 27 Oct last year I went to a hypnotist and never looked back. I dont know what he did, how he did it but he did. Hand on heart I have found it easy. Hate the smell now and didnt think I would ever say that. Mrs Double reckons I should now become a sniffer dog. When people get in the car for a driving lesson I can tell when they have just had a fag and its horrendous. Makes me think what I used to be like. GOOD LUCK and if you slip by the wayside dont worry just start again. Thats stopping again.

i started again about 6 months ago after 5 years off them! So disappointed in myself. Was so stressed out in work one day my colleague gave me one and before i knew it i was back to 5-10 a day. Managed to go the odd few weeks without. When i gave up previously, i simply went cold turkey and never looked back. We are expecting in 4 weeks so that's my motivation this time. i have 3 left in the packet, once they're gone that's it.

Tried and failed lots of times in the past.......you need to WANT to give up.

I stopped 7 months ago, just stopped without any pins in my ear or hypnotherapy nonsense......JUST STOP!

to start again you physically have to go to a shop, buy them, buy lighter, unwrap and light it up........no-one drags you there and forces it in yer gob! its really not difficult and the rewards are HUGE!

I stopped smoking using Champix tablets, i smoked between 20 & 40 a day.

I had my last fag on the 22nd of January this year, after 4 days of taking the tablets i didnt want to smoke anything at all, I even went out on the piss (work mates leaving do) and still didnt want a fag even after a belly full of lager, these are the only things i have ever used that have actually made me give up, patches, inhalers were all rubbish IMO.

I had to see the nurse every two weeks to get a repeat precription but told her that i worked in central London and it was not always possible to see her every two weeks, she agreed so i would phone her up and confirm i wasnt smoking and she would leave the presription at reception to pick up when it was a more conveniant time.

A tip to save money on quitting is to apply for a NHS prescription card http://www.nhsbsa.nhs.uk/1127.aspx for £29 you get 3 months worth of prescriptions and this is the lengh of the champix course so it only costs the price of a prescriptoin card to give up rather than paying for individual prescriptoin every two weeks .

People say that the tablets make you angry and mess up your sleep up but i think that this is simply just because you have given up smoking and are having a come down from inhaling thousands/millions of chemicals every day.

The only side effect i had were dreams about receptionists at work :o

Yes it is about Will power but Champix helps you along the way when you first give up, now ive been given up for 15 weeks and seen the financial benifits i wont ever smoke again.

I am currently using an e-light cig. The electronic ones. It works quiet well because the smoke you exhale makes it feel like smoking unlike the little white plastic inhalers which just seem to burn at the back of my throat.

Only been a week but thanks to it I've only had 10 real cigs in 7 days rather than the usual 10-20 a day.

1.Most smokers who stop use nothing but willpower.
2. If you use a nicotine replacement you have to give up twice (The fags then the replacemint)
3.Once addicted always an addict, its the first one that gets you hooked again.
4. Nicotine replacement is of doubtful benefit, the tablets (Zyban or Champix) can help but have health risks of their own
5. Most smokers who stop have tried at least 5 times- so don't stop stopping.
6. Three out of four smokers will die from a smoking related condition.

I've been smoking for over 20 years and tried the patches, tablets and always ended back on the smokey treats.

This time I've gone down the vaping route (e-cigs), haven't had a real fag for a couple of months now and have no desire, head over to http://ukvapers.com/ you will find all the info you need and a really helpful and friendly bunch all of whom have been in exactly the same boat, if you decide to give it a go they will point you to a good quality cheap set up and save you buying the usual crap that starters get suckered into getting...good luck !

I used to smoke 30-a-day when I was younger which built up over 4-5 years. I was fortunate enough to wake up one morning after a BIG night out with a rancid taste and have never smoked since.

If I still smoked, my nanna who I'm very close to being diagnosed with aggresive lung cancer for the second time would make me stop in an instant. She only has 1/2 a lung left anyway and coupled with dimentia isn't pleasant. Just glad I'm one of the few she still recognises

I'm coming up for 9 weeks off the evil weed now.
I had many many many many attempts to give up using everything for will power to Zyban.
Nothing worked. My doctor said your not ready, that was 2 years ago.
I went to see him a few months back knowing this time I was ready having had asthma for 3 years following a very bad bout of flu to the point I would wake up my wife wheezing in the night and coughing up some pretty foul stuff.
He put me onto Champix and they worked a treat. Went from half ounce of tabacco a day to nothing without it bothering me one bit. I still get cravings but nothing like I used to get. I no longer wheeze, I sleep alot better and it's helped my game no end.
Good luck my friend.

In my experience, the hardest thing about giving up smoking is habits!! I would smoek on my walk to work, on the golf course etc. So when I decided to give up I changed my walk to work as that made that routine different. Obviously we can't all do this, but I find it's not the addiction its the routine you get into.

I went cold turkey and have not had one since. Every now and then I get a craving, but tbh I can't stand the smell of it now, which certainly helps get rid of the cravings!!

You have to want to give up to be able to do it. I've tried several times in the past, trying cold turkey, patches, support groups, chewing gum etc, etc. The thing that has worked for me are Champix tablets, quit smoking on day 8 of taking the tablets, now I can't stand the smell of smoking, don't crave them, and wonder why I ever smoked at all.
4 Months after giving up, bought myself a set of new shiny's from the money saved in a jar
Good luck, it's well worth giving up

Arrrrhhhh.... I'm doing well gone cold turkey get the urge and also feels weird when I know I should be smoking I'm just sat in the van watching me mate lol...
Anyway the only problem I'm suffering is god damn hunger!!! I nailed all my crib and flask by half 12! Normally I'm still picking at it through the afternoon...
Anyone else had this with regards to being hungry? To be fair I have had half a rollie but that's it since I "quit".

i put on three stone when i stopped , you can taste your food a lot better i used to have a coffee and a fag , now it's a coffee and three bikkies. you need a lot more exercise. keep it up and the best of luck

When I tried to stop I wanted to eat more often, so took some raw carrots with me to work. Cheap, nice, good for you, and take a while to eat one.

I guess you have to like carrots though. And not work in a library.

The best bit about giving up smoking (or so I hear, as I've never been a smoker myself) is that you get to become that sanctimonious ex-smoker that gets on his/her high horse about others who still smoke. My mate did it all the time...until he started smoking again. ;)
