What would you do if you discovered that the opponents that you were due to play in a tie hadn't met the entry criteria? You also have cast iron proof of this fact!

They now comply but didn't on entry when the rules were laid out in black and white. They have also played previous rounds knocking people out!

Would you report it or would you just play the tie and keep quiet!

And do they know you know

The opponents don't know that I know. But I do know and now feel that they shouldn't have been allowed to play previous rounds.

It's pretty pathetic to report it though, makes my look like a tit (well a bigger one anyway!) so not sure whether to leave it and just play the tie!

Ye it sounded like a silly question once I had asked it but I was wondering if it was something you were looking to appeal or something that you wanted to bring to light.

I think I may bring it to the rule makers attention or maybe sound them out about it.

In what way did they not comply? I guess it should not matter as rules is rules but I would be interested.

As they now comply I would be tempted to play and say nothing. Complaining that they did not previously comply although you were not afffected does not look good.

Alternatively pass your information to their previous opponents, who are really the ones with grounds for complaint.

Its entirely possible that he didn't have his handicap back by then as I know that he only got it re-instated in June!

Also the rules say if entry criteria is not made they disqualification is the result.

Might be against the grain here but I would bring this to the attention of the rule makers.
Golf is supposedly a game of integrity and trust. If you have proof that they knowingly entered in breach of the rules then it's only fair that they should be brought to book, not just for the game but for the people that they have played and won against fraudulently.

Active handicap.

I think I would be tempted to leave it. The issue is that they knocked people out who did have an active handicap but they are now legit so it kind of does not effect you. That would be my thoughts I guess. Clearly you would rather not have to from what you say...

A problem with active handicaps would have me concerned. Could have gone ages without entering a comp and has only now started putting some cards in as they get further in this competition in case it is checked. Any idea how long the handicap was inactive for.

Tricky situation to deal with without coming out of it looking bad.

You see this is where I tend to agree but I'm also VERY conscious that it looks horrendous if I bring it the the attention of the authorities involved!

He may well be one of the well-known band of players who will submit 3 Supplementaries to keep their artificially high handicaps active.

Active handicap.

Thought it might be. I would probably leave it as they now comply. It's up to the organisers to deal with that at the time of entry or for the previous opponents to flag it before their tie (if they knew).

You are playing them now they comply so it's all fair and square as far as you are concerned. Just go out there and beat them :D
