Last weekend at the Glen GC North Berwick

Player 1 had the best scratch, and the best HC after countback, he received only the scratch trophy.

Player 2 The next best HC, received the HC trophy.

Player 3 had the next best scratch but gets no trophy.

My understanding is Player 1 should have got the HC prize even though he had the lowest gross.

Player 3 should get the scratch.

Player 2 gets nothing.

As a footnote this comp was a HC only trophy and the Scratch trophy has only been added this year.

Fire away boys.

theres only a prize for best scratch and best handicap?
I'm all for top dog gets both as you can win your own clubs handicap PLUS scratch club championships cant you.

However, if the rule is one prize only then player one gets scratch and player 2 the handicap trophy, bit obvious isnt it or am I missing something?

the cudos is the scratch prize if he gets a choice what one he wants

I'm only talking about who gets winners trophy, there are other prizes, sweep money and the like.

My understanding at the clubs I've been with over the years is the HC prize takes priority. So, player 1 should get the HC trophy, he was best HC, not the scratch trophy even though he was the best stratch as well. The guy that got the HC trophy did not have the lowest HC score.

Player 1 should have won both trophies. He was the best on the day. Better than player 2 or 3 in respective formats, so should win both.

As you know, I play in Open comps also... ;)

The rule of thumb with the comps I tend to play in are as follows:

Trophies are awarded to the best player. If that means that the scratch and HC trophies are awarded to the same person then so be it.

Individuals can only win one prize.

So in this instant, Player 1 would get both trophies and the 1st place HC prize (assuming this was the best one).

Player 3 would get the 1st place scratch prize.

Player 2 would get the 2nd place HC prize if there were one.

I'd of thought Player 1 gets both trophies and 1st prize scratch prize. player 2 gets the first prize HC prize voucher and player 3 gets 2nd prize scratch prize.

To answer the OP.

I think its right player 1 gets the Scratch and player 2 gets the handicap. If you shoot the lowest then you deserve the top prize. Player 3 is unlucky.

I'd feel wrong going home with a trophy and telling people there was someone in with a better score than me.

Our system:
Best gross gets Championship Cup and gross first prize
Best nett gets Championship Shield and nett first prize - but not if best gross
Second best gross gets gross second prize
Second best nett gets nett second prize – even if third best gross
Third best gross gets gross third prize – unless second best nett
Third best nett gets nett third prize

This is easier to do than put into words
:D

lol, read that 3 times and all I see now is gross/nett/gross/2nd/1st/gross/nett :D

Personally I think if someone is good enough to take best scratch and best handicap he or she is a reall champion and why not......
to the victor the spoils

I'd of thought Player 1 gets both trophies and 1st prize scratch prize. player 2 gets the first prize HC prize voucher and player 3 gets 2nd prize scratch prize.

So if player 1 gets the scratch the guy that gets the HC is not the lowest HC. The question is what gets priority.....nothing else.

I think as its primarily a handicap competition then the h/cap trophy is the big prize with scratch bringing up the rear so to speak.

I suppose that's a decision the committee have to make and publish beforehand. Just my opinion but personally I'd say the scratch is the bigger prize and he should get that one, but really it all depends on who the comp is aimed at.

Again....they only award one trophy for each category.....no one player can take both. Yes he was good enough to take the two, but that is not the question. Effectively the HC player who got the trophy did not have the best net score, so, should the scratch winner really have got the HC trophy.

If the comp is aimed at the nett score then yes, player 1 should get the HC trophy. Player 3 should get the scratch trophy. Player 2 lucks out.

But this is why it's a bit ridiculous to only allow one winner of trophies. If player 3 gets the scratch because player 1 is given the HC, he isn't the lowest either! In both cases, the best player isn't taking the trophy!

However, your question is which takes priority and I would suggest that's up to the committee to decide.

Why should player 3 get the scratch Trophy when he was second in that category? Why should player 1 have to settle for the h'cap trophy when he was best scratch? Everybody knows the most important prize is the scratch trophy. If there has to be 1 trophy per player, player 1 gets scratch, player 2 gets nett, player 3 gets nothing.

However the two trophies are best gross and best nett and should go to the player who gets best gross and best nett, that's player 1.

Our club champs went to the same player this year and I have no problem with that but I think that is the first year it has happened and there was apparently some noses out of joint.
