Putting: how do you stroke it?

Hi, I am lucky enough to have a PGA professional as a close friend and playing partner...I know, I'm very very lucky. Although I think his wife hates me!

Anyway as you would expect his putting is clinical. Few things he told me to work on.

1. Play slightly fowrward in stance to get the ball rolling.
- With this position in mind do not swing past the back foot but accelerate through the ball again causing the ball to roll straight, end over end.

2. This is what helped me the most.....hold the putter very lightly and STROKE with a slow rythem.

May be tailor made advise to my technique but no harm in anyone else giving it a go!!!

Anyone putt like Phil Michelson?

I tried it and found that it works quite well for me. Much easier to judge pace.

I'd like to putt like Phil (yes please).....what is it he does that I can try and you have tried?

I wouldn't listen to to much I say, high h'capper that swings from glorious to disasterous in one round. And then quite often back again......and again.......

Assuming you're a right hander.

I try to keep the left arm and the shaft of the putter as one line, as though the handle is longer and it's tied to my arm. I find that it helps stop flicky wrists when compared to the traditional 'Y' shape, and therefore easier to control distance. Or put it another way, push your hands forward at the address position, as though you're playing a wedge.

But hey. What do I know. I'm cr....(not very good!)

Head still, left eye over the ball, don't break the wrists, swing smoothly with pendulum motion from shoulders. don't lift head until arms come through, don't try and steer the ball. Easy,,, so why don't I do it that way.
Was thinking of writing it on the ball but not enough room. :p
