Jesus, you'd have thought he learned something from that Honma nonsense. I guess that's his career winding down now then.
Or is it a smart move. New British based brand of their gear is good and takes off he earn well out of it. Slightly older tour player with improving ball speeds is a good advertisement piece for them etc.

I'm sure he thought similar about Honma but his game fell off a cliff. If it does that again I think he may be too old to recover this time.

I'm not sure at his age that he can afford to take a gamble and lose half a year / a year, as he did with Honma. By all means do the deal when you go to the oldies tour, but now? I'm with @Orikoru , strange decision.

I don’t buy into the Honma being what ruin his game. Players have bad spells his coincided with a kit change. Everyone this year said the same about Penge “oh his move to PXG has ruined his game” suddenly life gets settled and his bang in contention again.

I don't think that's a decent analogy, because Penge hasn't played crap, and PXG are a fairly recognised brand that other pros have used.

I've done a bit of research (ChatGPT) and supposedly Rose noticed higher ball speed in his Honma testing, then went down a rabbithole of trying to chase that which ultimately messed up his game for a bit. So changing clubs was a trigger for the poor performance indirectly.

Rose has helped develop the clubs, I suspect he'll play just fine with them.
Garcia helped develop his Golfyr putter, does he putt well all of a sudden? Adam Scott helped develop a putter for LAB and he doesn't even use it. 😆

How is it a bad analogy. Everyone was whinging Penge issue were because he changed clubs just like Justin did regardless what ChatGPT says it’s exactly what happened and claiming PXG were inferior to Mizuno. Also if that’s correct that he went down the rabbit hole of chasing speed that’s nothing to do with the brand of clubs he was using as being the reason for his bad play. It actually suggests it was totally his own fault in trying to do different things in his swing not the clubs. Blaming the clubs as an indirect trigger is rubbish if that’s what ChatGPT says it’s true!

Well the fact is Rose moved to Honma, and then his form dropped through the floor for 18 months. Whether Honma was the cause or not is debatable, but the drop of form at that time is a fact. Whereas Penge has only recently switched to PXG, so irrespective of what people might say, there is not yet any evidence to say it has harmed his performance. Particularly as he's only just moved to the PGA Tour at the same time.

Also, as I said already, I don't think PXG are necessarily bad clubs since they have supplied a few different tour pros now. Especially compared to someone like Mizuno who are known for their irons but not much else. Whereas Honma, I can't think of any other notable player who used them, and he had moved from TaylorMade which is probably the most popular brand on tour.

And as you pointed out Rose was making changes to chase speed. So it’s not the clubs fault so to say it was it clutching at straws and making assumptions this change will be the same. The lessons he probably learnt is don’t make changes that aren’t needed and he’s had a hand in the R&D of the club along with former chief Callaway designers and execs. I can’t see this making any difference to his game in any way.

The Penge point was proof it wasn’t the clubs as it was so short term a dip and the fact Justin’s went in so long shows it was more mechanical tinkering than it was a crap set of clubs. 🤷🏼

Just because the move to Honma didn’t work out doesn’t mean this one will go the same way

As I said McClaren is being run by an ex Callaway exec and the design and build of them is being done by guys that have worked in Callaway and TM

Didn't say it was wholly the club's fault, but him switching to them and chasing ball speed was a whole cocktail that threw his game off. What can I say, I see smoke, I see fire. 😆 I still stand by the fact that nobody else of note has used Honma so they're probably not the greatest.

Yeah, hopefully they'll be less junk than Honma then. :ROFLMAO: Let's wait and see.

Sounds more like you’re looking at it purely as a club golfer. Can’t be the fault of a crappy swing must be the clubs 😂

Out of interest can and without googling you name a tour pro using Miura irons which are essentially made in the same way and same country as Honma?

Well look at him now, TaylorMade in the bag, competing for the Masters at 45. Honma obviously held him back. 😁

Nope. Obviously junk as well. Fancy junk, but junk. ;)
