Professional Golf

Been a weird watch. Was good seeing the young kid try to break 60, but when they mentioned the cut line after the 3rd round will be -12 it made me switch off as it’s just not really that entertaining. One of the reasons I prefer the DPWT is at least it’s a little varied or even better the ladies golf as distance is more relatable.

Who’s this young teenage lad Blades Brown 18yrs old, played Korn Ferry last week only finishing his final round Wednesday. Tees it up literally the next day on the PGA tour with no practice rounds. Currently only 2 shots off the lead and is -10 thru 13 holes for his round today alone 😮.

He was the number 1 ranked US junior a couple of years ago. He decided to turn professional at age 17 rather than go down the usual college route that boys like Miles Russell and Mason Howell are pursuing. Apparently he finished his last school exam just before flying to the Bahamas for the Korn Ferry event. Oh to be young again 🙂

These type of PGA Tour Dart Fests are exactly what Brian Rollap is going to get rid of.
Just got bored watching it and turned it off.

The reason we love watching majors is that there is some elements of struggle.

PGA Tour events like Bay Hill where the rough is penal and Riveria where the greens are tiny offer this.

For me a winning score in a professional event should be somewhere between -8 and -12.

They have got it pretty right in dubai this week with rock hard greens proving a real challenge and rough heavy enough that makes it hard for approach shots to stay on them.

I've played the Emirates and the PGA West Pete Dye course that the Amex is on.

As an amateur, normal 6 handicapper, they are both a tough enough test off the normal 6500'ish tees. There is plenty of drama in both, the rough is fairly penal at both - thick and chewy the Emirates and dormant Bermuda at La Quinta. They are both 'resort' courses, normally played by tourists and no pushover for average golfers.

So the difference in the scoring it is, I suppose, all down to set up - I assume firmness of the greens (they were both plenty fast enough the times I have played them) is the major factor as the weather looks similar. I guess it is the choice of the PGA to determine how much of a birdie fest it will be - obviously they differ in their view from the DPWT.

2 Liv Golfers in the final group on Sunday in a signature Rolex event.

I do wonder what the DPWT think about that?
Can't imagine they're too fussed.

They'll be a chunk of (sensible 😉) people who'll watch/follow - just after a good finish and the best player of the week being successful.
They'll be some who'll be tribal and be rooting against them. And a group who'll be tribal & rooting for them.
Eyes & interest on it.

Plus generally there's the 'free money' income 😉

Course is playing tough

Bone Hard Greens
Have to stay out of the rough
Breeze is up
Pins are tucked

Need to have all facets of your game on point to score well...... As it should be

I have to say that it's become a bit dull..
Quite enjoyed the first 2 days, didn't catch much of yesterday though..
Today...well, nobody seems to be playing well with the exception of the 4th best known French man on Tour and Armitage...
The big 4 from Eurorpe haven't shown up and I'm fully expecting Reed to knock it round in 1 or 2 over and still win by 3....

I personally prefer to watch players being challenged by a hard golf course than a soft course drive wedge birdie fest.

Each to their own though...

I agree with that.
The problem here is that players we thought might fire up and put pressure on the leaders (e.g. Hovland and Sullivan) have actually fallen away - so the contest bit is a bit lacking so far. Watching the world's least likeable golfer go round in +2 to win a tournament isn't the top level of drama. Lets hope Puig hits a couple of worldies!

Reed is just demonstrating the correct way to play when you enter the final round with a good lead. Keep it steady and force everyone else to take some risks. Puig is struggling with his accuracy but despite that is offering some sort of challenge.

The rest of the pack are simply not able to make an impact.

This might be a good example of why LIV’s change to 72 holes might have been a bit hasty.
