After having a woeful hour of practice before going out for a few practice holes, I just wasn't motivated to think about golf. Suprisingly enough, the 5 holes I played were the best I played in a while. 3 pars, a bogey and a birdie, which left me a very happy 21 handicapper ! :D
This got me thinking, is there much point of a pre game routine? I usually hit for 25 minutes and 10 minutes putting green before I go, but now I am contemplating just going onto the putting green for 5 minutes then going straight out !
What do you do ?

Normally i would hit a few balls in the nets then putt for a bit but if the tees busy i might go on the range and come back later.:D

Yes. You should warm up properly. You say you normally hit balls for 25 mins... that's perfect... just don't worry about where they go, use it as a proper warm up... if you can help it don't even think about your round until you walk onto the first tee.

I'd love to do this but truth is most places don't have a decent place to warm up so it's usually a couple of ciggies and away we go :)

Most games I like to hit 20-25 balls usually a few short irons working down the bag to the Driver then finish off with a few wedges. From there I go and chip for 10 mins or so and finally hit a few putts, though a bit different to most. Mainly I do some distance work putting to the edge of the putting green in various directions to get the pace then hit about a dozen 3-4 footers, but at a tee peg not a hole (makes the hole bigger when you get out on the course)

when i play on the sunday morning it's a case of roll up and tee off.i'm usually first off at 7am and usually arrive with 5 mins to spare after the 20 mile drive.

on the monday night medal here at killin i sometimes hit 25-30 shots depending on how much time i have to spare before the tee off time.i usually have some putts before heading out.

i've found some good scores and crap scores with these methods so doesn't really make a difference for me.

I like this apart from....

Our practice green is always significantly faster than any green on the course. I have no idea why, but it is a pain.

I tend to practice during the week resisting the urge to go on the course and stay on the practice area at least 2 nights a week but always have 30-40 mins warming up before i play in comps lets face it how many times do we moan about being a slow starter after 3 holes is it because your muscles have not warmed up,i played in a big pro-am a few years ago and the pro came on the practice range with me prior to going out but never hit a shot i said are you hitting a few he just looked at me and said" i have been hitting golf balls everyday for 40 years i think i know how to do it by now sonny"

I usually stretch for 5 minutes or so and hit 20-25 balls. Not looking for any swing thoughts just a smooth tempo. Hit a few chips and putts and off to the 1st tee. Peg it up and hit my customary hook. 30 minutes in the cold well spent there then. I have to be honest though if I don't hit any balls (I'll use a net if nothing else) I do feel stiff and tense on the first tee and that is never a good sign for things to come

I was getting there an hour before my tee off time and hitting 30-40 balls, bunker shots etc and it wa sjust becoming too much. Going for the less is more option these days.

turn up, shoes on, chew the fat with the pro for 10 while having a fag, 15 seconds of stretching, two practise swings, top it

Car Park
Change trousers and rugby shirt in van with door open
Fag and can of larger
Spare can inside pocket of cargo shorts
5 minutes on putting green making baboon mating noises that distract people teeing off on first
Walk onto first tee and insult Captains group playing through
Tee of while the group infront are still in range and tell them "I dont normally hit it that far"

Wake up with with a start, sweat rolling down my face.

Turn up
Unpack Car
Go to pro shop talk for a while
Sign In
Go to tee
Do some stretches there the more the better
Few practice swings to feel a smooth tempo and hit a draw.

If i dont stretch enough and am stiff then i find my body wont turn and the arms takeover and cause me to hook, used to be the opposite when i hit a fade if i was stiff i hit a slice.

I tend to play better if i just stretch, not fit enough to go and hit a pile of range balls then go out for 18 holes, found that if i do that i start good but burn out towards the last 4 holes.

But i do play if even just a few holes or go to the range most days of the week and only take an odd day out if i have played or ranged more than normal.
