Pointless feature (in car or elsewhere)

If I'm stuck at lights/non-moving traffic for a while, I'll often put handbrake on and select neutral so I'm not sitting there blinding the driver behind with my brake lights. Will often cancel the indicators as well for same reason.

Ditto. What has made this easier as well is the electronic parking brake switch being adjacent to the gear stick and no need to release the handbrake when pulling off as it is related to the accelerator.

My VW has auto hold brake - so when I stop in Drive the brake just comes on without me doing anything - and releases when I pull off. When driving around it is very rare for me to change out of Drive until I park up or have to reverse.

Freezer door alarms that fire off when the door is wide open and obviously open but stay quiet when the door is open 1cm

Just when you can't damn well tell that its damn well open :mad::mad:

Another one from the Ministry of Crap Design

You could always close the door properly;)
Magnetic switches unfortunately have a slightly longer range than dead closed:)

Surely, with electronic handbrakes, when you get a flat battery you won't be able to bump start the car as the handbrake would still be engaged.

Read through this and amazed at some of the answers. Fully believe it’s usually down to people not understanding (or trusting) the technology as to why it is there.

Embrace why it is there, and understand that it’s job is to make your life easier...especially the stuff in cars!

Ford's worldwid patient ran out a few years back now
That's sick

Most irritating feature on my car is the nanny alarm that goes off when the seat belt is not done up, which means I can never stick stuff on the passenger seat.
Also the auto handbrake won't release when you don't have the seat belt on which means in the drive you have to stick the seat belt on.

If I open the door in my Merc, it puts the car into park, even if it is moving. It's obviously a safety feature, but sometimes I like to reverse with the door open, and it always catches me by surprise.

Yes, cameras and bleepers are fine, but there are some low walls at the flat that they don't pick up, that are just high enough to catch the exhaust.

I drive an automatic so you cannot bump start anyway.

With modern electronics and a flat battery I would be surprised if you could bump start a modern car, as it would mean a lot of essential engine controls would not be working. No experience just a thought.

.

Even on my Peugeot I find this is a really annoying feature. I sometimes want to move my car just a couple of yards along the driveway to a specific spot which can only be seen with an open door.

The different modes available for type of driving. My car I can set to Eco, Normal, Sport & Custom. Yes I understand the different modes and what my car can do, but in modern society where we're cutting emissions and fuel now costs as much as buying a new testicle is there any need fir modern cars to be set up to be anything less than 100% economical.

Oh and the automatic breaking that kicks in when your supposedly to close to something that makes the car slam on full breaking for you. Fine in theory for a potential collision absolute garbage when your doing not a lot of speed and it assumes the parked car your nowhere near is a collision hazard

I find the automatic emergency braking to be more of an accident creator when your vehicle decides to slam the anchors for what you see as no good reason and the vehicle behind you also isn’t expecting it and don’t react in time.
So far I have had 3 near misses with just that scenario.

Same here its a bloody hazard more than a life saving device. Had it recently going across Snake Pass through the Penines going round a bend and car decided to slam on, meant car behind me wondered what was going on, Mrs Wolf gets almost strangled by her seat belt, thw cause of it a wall to the left on the bend/bridge which you have to be close to as its a narrow 2 way road. If i hadn't controlled the car the vehicle behind would've rammed us and arnt us through the wall and rolling down a good few hundred feet into a stream.. Ita bloody dangerous, but its OK you get a warning beep less than a fraction of a second before the car emergency breaks itself?

First time I drove an automatic was in Manhattan - driving north heading upstate to friends. It was rush hour. The west side freeway heading north was solid as we passed the Bronx. I couldn't understand why I was continually getting 'hooted' by cars behind me. Only when I got to our friends and I was asking about driving an automatic did they tell me that every time I stopped in the traffic and had been putting the car to P - I was going through R and so my reversing lights would have been coming on - and that's why the cars were hooting me - they thought I was going to reverse into them...oops...

My new golf bag has so many pockets that I can't work out what they are all for. What makes that worse is that there is nothing about the umbrella 'pocket' to stop my brolly dropping all the way through and jamming against the ground...if it's a feature it's pointless - if it's designed that way it's rubbish. Otherwise a good bag.
