Playing in the rain?

If you can find them. 'Gorilla Grip' is good. It's a bit like a 'tak rag' that decorators might use. Drummers use them to stop sweaty hands sliding on drum sticks, and pole dancers use them.

Just dab the cloth over your grips, and hands and job done.

I've no immediate plans to be teeing it up in the rain ... But your right about "Gorilla Grip", it's good stuff.

I hate playing in the wind as I am a glasses wearer. I have a waterproof under armour cap I use to try and keep some of the rain off the lenses. Other than that I use Macwets, a good set of FJ waterproofs and tend to leave the umbrella on the bag as its more hassle than its worth. If the rain isn't as heavy, I'll take 4-5 older gloves in a sandwich bag and swap them every 3-4 holes. I will use the umbrella with a towel under to keep the grips drier.

The main thing to take out with you though is a positive mental attitude. Most of the field are thinking bad thoughts before the off and so if you can swing easy and accept the conditions and the fact you will hit more bad shots than normal then you will be several strokes up on the field before you start

Playing in the rain doesn't bother me but don't like strong wind and rain together. Cancelled last nights 9 holes due to strong gusts of wind plus torrential rain. Gusts of 40mph forecast for when we're due out tomorrow. I've had two days without any golf so it's going to have to be really bad to stop me going out.

Agree with this.

Wind = OK (big drives when behind you, big excuses when into your face)
Rain = OK

Wind + Rain = stay in bed.

Macwets and a brolly, just accept that you will get wet.

I used to faff about in the rain trying to keep dry, but now I know that is not possible so I just concentrate on the golf like I would if it were sunny. Like an earlier poster said, half the field is gone mentally and won't score well because they are worrying about getting wet.

Skin is waterproof and towels are cheap at Matalan :)

Am i crazy that I actually kind of enjoy playing in the rain? As long as it isn't bitterly cold, then warm rain can be quite nice! Stops me arsing around over the ball as well!

Are MacWets really that good?

In my bag are Karrimor Sierra jacket and over trousers and a Karrimor mountain sport hat. Does the job as well as top golfing brands

I always take a spare pair of socks for when I change my shoes to go into the clubhouse, even on a hot day

Forget the umbrealla, get a good set of water proofs, a water proof hat and some macwets.

Go prepared for it to be horrible, make sure you are warm and comfortable in the clobber you choose. 70% of the field will be so busy bleating about the weather and fannying about with umbrellas and drying grips that they are already out of the comp.

Just suck it up and go play.

Weren't you the one who got a tad miserable at woodhall spa, in a light shower?

I don't mind rain if I'm prepared for it. But if I go out prepped for sunshine, and then get soaked, it's no fun. Last comp it was sunny to start, and then thunder, hail, torrential rain, for two holes. I got soaked, proper soaked, and it ruined my round. I could have wrung out my boxers, I was that wet.

Water proofs, and umbrellas are there to get me back to the club house in the main.

A few of my mates just wear w/p trousers without normal ones underneath , and a tee shirt under a w/p jacket if its not too cold. While i'm at the bar in my shorts and tee shirt , not that keen anymore .

Take a spare towel, spare gloves and a change of clothes for afterwards, and accept that you're going to get wet. As for actually playing, if you've got the waterproofs on, swing within yourself. Remember that the greens will be a bit slower, too.

Finally, and most importantly, don't moan about the weather. As others have said, half the field will be moaning about it and will take themselves out of the running before they even start.

lots of good advice fellas.

Key one is not to moan about the weather and wrap up for the worst of it, then just 'do it'

Lets hope I can keep positive all the way round:rolleyes:

Waterproof pants, base layer, shirt, wind/waterproof 3/4 length top, MCWETS and a hat or two!
Accept you will get wet, but embrace the challenge!
Also my motorcaddie has a great waterproof cover that keeps everything dry, and an umbrella holder to keep my umbrella firmly in place for when I'm on the move. It's quite a good setup really!

If its wind forget the Brolley holder on trolley in the wind they're useless.

If your using a trolley I'd use a full length bag cover
Waterproofs & Waterproof hat
Spare towel & gloves
Accept it is what it is, that way when overs are moaning you can just crack on.

For afterwards a towel so you can have a hot shower, change of clothes to keep you looking fresh whilst everyone else sports the drowned rat look and a nice Irish coffee because that's double loaded warm up juice.

went out, lashing, very cold, windy.............and...............rearrange these words into a well known phrase

Soldiers this for a bugger game of

walking round a muddy field in winter rain conditions wearing less than I would normally is not golf and not the least bit fun:angry:

roll on summer:lol:

Thumbs up for the Irish coffee Fader.
I get a bit of stick of me bottle swilling mates, but they don't know what they're missing.
Can't beet it on days like today, when it feels more like October than May.

Why bother playing in bad wind and rain just have a day off golf easy you cant tell me its enjoy-full stay at home and watch sky sports much more fun

I also played today in drizzly rain and a stiff wind, wasn't too bad.

Scoring was average at best, will either make buffer or miss by a shot depending on CSS
