Hi Everyone:

I just joined a golf club here in North Carolina. There are about 175 men in the mens golf club (carry formal handicaps) and of those 59 are 9.9 or below. So just about one-third have single digits. Is this the case at your club in the UK? Just interested.

Thanks.

How many are correct ? IE no breakfast balls, gimme’s, etc

It seems we have around 360 members. There are 13 single figures - unless you're one of those people that counts 9.5. to 9.9 as single figures, in which case there would be 19 single figures. So that's either 3.6% or 5.3% depending on how you feel about that particular issue. 😁

Wow, that is incredibly low. Are you aware of any reason for this?

We have about 30 members with a plus handicap index. No idea how many that are less than 9.9.

Probably about 20 out of around 500.

Jamie's home club, I'm not sure of the numbers but it will be a lot. His index puts him in the top 5 percent at country and county level but only the top 17% at Huddersfield.

Is this status easily available on EG or V1golf, or are you all looking each member up individually??

Incidentally, I thought Course Rating was the level of difficulty of a course, Slope measures how much more difficult it is for a non-scratch golfer?

Think you can see it on the my eg website

Hasn't he said it has a very low slope rating. Low players might not see it as enough of a challenge.
Also harder for HI to come down as well
Yeah I think both of these. Our course ratings are stupidly low, so there are probably another 10 or 12 players who could easily be single figures if they played at a different club. And very good players might be inclined to go and play at a longer course where they get an extra shot or two.

I went into Club V1, scroll doewn to Your Golf section, Handicap List. You can then order the members in handicap order. There may be a cleverer way of doing it but that is what I did.

I am sure you are right about rating and slope. I get them mixed up, largely because I don't care 😄. The gist is, it is not one of the tougher courses according to the raters. Not necessarily to those who play there but that is a separate issue.

We have 84 (if i counted correctly) out of 663 members with handicaps.

This is full club, includes a couple of the pro team and juniors as well as men and ladies.

I think you have said that the course is very short and has 6 par 3s?

I think lower handicap players will often overlook joining just on that basis without looking further into the club as a place to join.

I also don’t think that green difficulty is taken into account when rating the course and you say they are the courses main defence which may well be the reason it’s rated lower than you think it should be in comparison to other courses
