Patrick Reed feud continues......

It's people that have worked closely with him that are saying these things, what do they have to gain from it? - they don't have anything negative to say about the other players on those college teams. A lot of it isn't rumours either. He was suspended for two College Tournaments for cheating while at Augusta State, he was kicked out of Georgia University, these aren't rumours, these things happened. If it was all lies and made up, why aren't his fellow professionals or fellow college players that are now on Tour coming out in support of him? No-one has a positive word to say about him, other than his wife.

I'm sure he's sitting at home in his Green jacket, checking his bank balance now his winners cheque has cleared, but is really concerned over a few disparaging comments from a bunch of nobodies on a golf forum 1000s of miles away!!! 😉😂😂🤣

So if we had a round of golf together, and I cheated, and then later stole your putter and some money out of your bag, you'd still think I was an alright guy? Because I didn't kill anyone or hurt an animal??

And the last time I checked, theft is a crime.

Was that confirmed and was he charged with theft and was he sanctioned for cheating ? Or is it still unconfirmed rumours and speculation

Are you really going to go there by starting to judge people’s own character ?

Has Reed killed anyone ? No
Done drugs ? Nope
Committed any crime ? Nope
Hit a cat ? Nope
Drowned a squirrel? Nope

So what if some of his fellow pros don’t like him - it’s a sport not a social club

There are plenty of sportsmen and ladies that are unlikable characters - that doesn’t mean people’s own character should be judged based on liking them or not

Isn't theft a crime?

He also has committed a crime (albeit nothing serious), that was part of the reason he was kicked out of Georgia. He was arrested twice for intoxication - the second of which he and his family tried to bury and hide from his coach at Georgia.

And a lot of Reeds is unconfirmed and rumoured

And what issues he has with his parents is nothing to do with anything - he’s not the first to have a rift with the family and it’s up to him how he acts around them

And Woods apologies are nothing but holllow at the end of the day - done to preserve and image to ensure he kept endorsements as they were flying out the door

You have made a lot of assumptions about Reed based on rumours and conjecture

And as for a role model - i expect he doesn’t play golf to be a role model but I’m a fan of his play on the course and his personality- never seen any issues from him as a golfer - what he is like of the golf course - what does that matter. He seems a very private person who doesn’t want to discuss rumours and rubbish and prefers to keep his life private - it seems that not allowed in the media society of social media where people demand blood from sportsmen

It’s not sweeping anything under the carpet by not pandering to gossipers in the media
100% agree, gossip and tittle tattle,

He was banned from two College Golf Tournaments due to cheating while at Augusta State.

I read that bit and it’s rather vague isn’t it - “confirmed by sources” - which were who and what exactly - nothing concrete at all.

Even the theft - all accusations but no charges no proof of it

The only thing he was charged with was getting drunk - well let’s get the stakes ready for him for getting drunk.

Social media will rip him apart and people will judge on the written word - what he does with his family and wife - nothing to do with anything of us , sounds like people don’t like him and maybe it’s jealousy because he was good and arrogant - oh well.

As far as I’m concerned there have been plenty who have had issues in the private life and golf life - as within reed i expect they don’t reallt care

I did find it odd that the crowd were clearly more excited at the prospect of Fowler, Speith or McIlroy winning than Reed. I felt the celebration was quite flat when he won and even from Reed himself to be honest, he didn't seem to celebrate as much as I expected but then different personalities show happiness and deal with success differently.

None of the above of course means he is a bad person. I didn't know anything of his background really, I just found it odd that the American fans weren't going that crazy for him.

On a more general point, with sports people and personality it seems as though people want the stars and winners to be the nice, honest and camera-friendly people but even when that is not the case, it doesn't seem to matter. Gatlin and Sharapova are cheats that are still supported, sponsored and successful, Chris Mason has a job presenting the darts despite his numerous criminal convictions, Mike Tyson is a convicted rapist but is still lauded as a hero for many people and Floyd Mayweather was convicted of domestic violence but that didn't stop people watching his fights.

What has any of this got to do with him winning the Masters? Nothing, expect for tarnishing his name.
Surely they should of concentrated on his performance at Augusta.

The perfect world of the GM forum where no one has ever made mistakes in the past , get over it, the guys class, that round on saturday was one of the best rounds of golf I've seen in a long time. He's not your all american poster boy he does things his way doesn't have club deal just plays what he wants and it worked.

Was it ever proven? Was it jealousy? If it was proven then I would suspect a lot more would have been made of it. Evidence is the Crux of the argument here, not rumours and mutterings.

Did you read the article Dan posted? It is described at length in there.

I have very little idea of what the vast majority of Pros get up to in their spare time ormwhat they may or may have done in the past.
And I don't really care that much, as long as they're not eating babies or suchlike...
If the Authorities think it's ok for them to play then that's all I'm interested in.
The rest is, well, irrelevant really.

I actually quite like him, he isn't the automaton like many US golfers.
As for the hypocrasy of the US galleries, so Reed messed about a little when younger after a few too many. It's not like he was shagging more women than holes on a 4 day golf tourney whilst still married.........oh wait, they don't seem to mind that

Just as a side note - I thought the Sky presenters - David Livingstone especially were trying to cloud his victory with a constant reference to his personality and history and trying to goad Butch Harmon into bad mouthing him. Kudos to Butch for playing a straight bat

He'd just won the biggest tourament of his career and played stellar golf - talk about his golf!

The difference between their attitude to him and Tiger is hypocisy of the highest order (and I'm a Tiger fan)

The BBC made a slight comment regarding the lack or gallery applause/noise for him, and just followed it with "from the wrong side of the tracks". TBH, after the comment about the lack of gallery support, especially compared to Rory, the BBC made no more mention of it and left it to his golf to speak.
