Ok as you may or may not be aware I am not the biggest hitter on here and played a par 3 hole the other week where the green started just after the water. It was to far for me to carry the green so just hit and hoped luckily it went slightly left and found a nice bit of rough!!!

Any one else had this problem and what did you do???

There's a par 3 at the Oxfordshire that has a substantial carry over water that a lot of the older members can't make.
They end up trying to play round it or trying to lay-up as close as possible and then play on.
Nothing else for it I'm afraid.

HAHAHA so funny never thought of hitting a 9 iorn to lay up in front of water on a par hahaha

Similar hole at my last club although it wasn't a complete carry over water. The pond was at about 150 on a 200 yard par 3. Us big boys could carry it no problem but many short hitters played 2 wedges to the green.

I'd give up golf if i couldn't carry a pond on a par 3 scouser :D

Don't fear there's not much water at my course :D ;)

Dont be a di*k it wasnt a pond .........more of a big puddle :o :o :o :o :o :o

If it was just a game at some other course then dont bother about it. If it's your home course then get another course that fits your game.

Dont have a home course i just found it funny when 3 of us stood there and though oh SH^T lol

There's a par 3 at mine over two lakes (yes, mental.. :() and if it's into the wind, I'm in trouble. A 5 wood won't carry and a 3 wood is lucky to stop before falling off the back down into another county.

Last time out, I hit a 9 iron 2 (!?) yards short of the second lake, popped over a SW to about 4 foot, was so shocked/exited I missed the putt.

If there really is no 2 shot strategy, you've had it!

A lot of our "less gifted" players hit an iron onto another fairway then try to lob it over the trees.

The Ladies play it at 127, lots of them take a fairway wood. :o

Whats the course? and hole number?

Ok a bit confused as this question has a very obvious answer,if you cant carry the water the only option is to lay up.However depending on the length of the hole of course.

Sorry not meant to confuse the lay up would take u about 100 yards from the tee so would look really weird playing it
