Par 3 and you cant carry the water? What would you do?

But if I go right of the big trees and land on the 11th fairway I can get an extra 20-30 yards on a straight drive and have an even shorter shot to the green.
Doesn't work out many times but it's an option.

CHEAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :o ;)

Thats like a F1 driver cutting a corner and getting a time penalty...

I feel a knew thread coming on ....is it ok to cut corners lol

I'm not a big hitter myself and hate those holes. I'm playing the Warwickshire in august and there is a hole with 190 yds of water to carry from the tee! It gives nightmares!

Theres one at Cumberwell Park that is about a 180 carry off the whites. One time I was playing with an older gent who was a steady golfer but not long , he just walked straight past the tee , we said hang on we're off the whites today. He just said he was off to the drop zone to play 3 so he didnt lose his ball  :D

Is that legal in a medal?

No idea but it was only a Fire Brigade event and he wasnt doing any harm. Believe me he wouldnt have made the carry and still only just made it from the drop zone which was about half the distance round the left hand side of the lake.

The only places you HAVE to be on any hole, are the right tee box and the right green. There's nothing that says you have to play the hole as the designer intended.

Think outside the box.

(I hate that phrase but it seems particularly apt here)

give us some distances then?
even going long and chipping back is an option.
i dont hit it far even with a long iron but unless the lake is 200yds and as wide as the ocean you should be able to get across.
even as gary said hit the adjoining fairway and play back onto the green.

You mean the 8th on the Kings? It gets even more interesting when there's a 20mph headwind across the lake. I have been known to aim well left of the green - cuts out about 10 yds and there's plenty of stopping grass...

Our 17th was into the wind today. Well, I say wind...more hurricane really.

I decided on my normal lay-up, to play 9i, SW to a par 3. :o

My partners were surprised to see my 9 iron fly seemingly much lower and potentially further.

I'd accidentally hit a 6i!

Didn't matter however, it was so into the wind, it still came up short of the pond.

Shanked a SW over the water, duffed a chip to no better than 15 foot, hit a shocking 1st putt and holed a 3 footer for a 5.

Still - 5 was a good score. Almost everyone else NR'd that hole.
