Opens and Prizes

Not using those exact word but an awful lot of insinuation and clever use of language to hint that the poster doesn't believe the score is legit. You also said in post 125 that the format was "asking for people to fabricate scores" - what does that mean if you are not hinting the score might not be truthful?
Rumours of pot hunters going round these team events have been going on for years.
I think people have suspicions that some may be cheating. I really hope that is never the case.

Do you think it was a possibility @Swango1980 ?
Many things are a possibilty.

It is a possibility, for all I know, that you cheat in every single competition you play. But I've no evidence on that matter, so I wouldn't insinuate that. Even if someone posted a score one day that showed you won a competition with a great score. And, on that day, if I came on social media and posted the results with :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO: after it, and other people made comments that implied cheating is a high possibility, than it would also be a possibility that you would get extremely offended by what was being suggested.

Not rumours, I've been told of people that have done it. Not magic pencil stuff but purposely inflating handicaps before going to play in opens.

That’s why I think prizes should be limited.
Nobody is gonna spend 3 months playing rubbish to win a £20 pro shop voucher.

Put the money towards food for each player and make the money over the bar instead is in my opinion how clubs should run an open.

It would be interesting to know if they entered many other opens and how they got on in them?
Also what were the prizes for 1st place?
I think opens would be better off offering lesser prizes to more of the field than amazing prizes for top 3.

The prizes appear to be dropping

Last year Peter Millar Branded tops worth over £100 each

Now it’s Ping tops

Yes people have been caught and had their HC suspended etc

I’m not fussed, my conscience is clear.

Who cares the R& A have openly embraced a handicapping system that rewards and encourages cheating and manipulation. Why stress over it when the high heid yins don't.

As far as I read the comments no one is accusing the team of cheating - there should be no deterrent from asking legitimate questions and no sinister accusations. We have fun competitions where the results have been ‘remarkable’ and done some checking, mostly with no foul practice found.

A winning score 12 points higher than a tightly packed bunch of runners up would normally pose some questions. If it didn’t then what score would be needed to raise questions? or should questions never be raised?

I am not saying there is anything untoward with the score but this score is certainly an outlier and if it prompted people to examine other performances or scoring records or any other evidence presented I don’t think this would be wrong - I sincerely hope everything is above board and they just had one of those days.

A simple blind acceptance of every outlying score can’t be the only way forward, especially as there are documented cases of things not always being perfect.

Team am/am should be banned not prizes or at least one member per team to avoid that mindset❗

We had a flyer on year at a course similar feeling, we all ripped it round but club made it the worst day ever #NoReturn
