Opens and Prizes

Nothing

And most clubs wont do anything

There will always be the overzealous HC sec of GM etc who will love to over lord it

But most clubs and their members will carry on running their swindles how they wish
All of ours have dropped roll up handicap systems. Guess what, after a week of bitching everyone is signing in and putting cards in and the world keeps turning. I suggest it wil be those looking to protect a vanity handicap or avoid a potential cut before a big event or open that may be the ones with most to risk but all of our Saturday and Sunday roll up members are going along with it. Yes the club has cast an eye over the booked names and seeing if a card per person has gone in but in my roll up groups case they all complied without issue

So if I was running a roll up, and did not give any info to the Club, what could they do ?
Are you talking about you running a regular type of roll up competition?

I'd agree that if you organised a single event as a one off, with a bunch of your mates, the Club isn't going to see it as a regular organised competition, and insist you do anything.

But, if you are talking about you organising a regular weekly roll up, it is probably quite easy for Club to find out. I mean, you'll be regularly booking tee times on the course that the Club manage. You don't need to be Sherlock Holmes to work out there is a regular competition going on between members.

See my last 2 posts. Exactly what happened at my place. Got called in as organiser to be asked to stop using roll up handicaps and club then monitored first few weeks and checked those in the roll up against cards submitted. Fortunately everyone had submitted

No it is a large group of guys who play most Tuesdays, but we move around to different courses, have our own handicap system and rules etc.

What is the harm ????

You can still have the competitive edge even though you can't win a prize? Whenever I play in a comp the target is to have a lower handicap than when I started and that is what spurs me on to play well. Crazyface has the option to submit the required number of cards by playing a few stablefords at his home club, I really don't see what the problem is.
The club in question stated that they require competition scores, which I can do, but the wife doesn't. She's really not bothered and it me that drags her along. The one, and to date, ONLY, time she has actually been "up" for a comp we played in was at St Annes Old Links, where she said before we started "I feel good about today". We dovetailed brilliantly she was on fire, crumbs I nearly eagled one! We got 46 points! But I digress. Normally, she doesn't bother, she's just there for the game. But I'm competitive. If we are playing in a comp, then we are trying to win, until the first blob goes on the card, then we're done.

Stumbled upon this from May last year from a fairly well known course. I have erased names.
Second place was 94 points.
Nice 1-under par round from the one getting 11 shots. That is 85% of his handicap, I assume.
Plenty of 4-pointers/net eagles scored.
